Spacer lift with X-REAS...

So, just out of curiosity I stopped by one of my local Toyota dealers and asked how much they would charge to install a Daystar spacer kit on a 2006 Sport Edition. They said that they couldn't do it with the X-REAS suspension so I mentioned that lots of people have lifted their 4Runners and retained X-REAS. He kind of went blank and said that I should check with 4-Wheel Parts.

Obviously not the right person to talk to, but I thought that it was interesting. I'll be doing it myself thanks to T4R.ORG!

I just put the Toytec 1/2" spacer (1" leveling) on my 08 Limited with XREAS this weekend. I have had no problems. Very easy install. Hardest part was getting the lower shock bolt back in. With two people, or a little more weight, that would have been easy too.

I've done more than a few spacer lifts and I have a ~6ft metal pipe I use to pry the lower control arm down. Makes that lower shock bolt easy. ;): Also makes it easy to get the entire assembly in/out.

ha, yeah, I could definitely see how that could help. oh well, it's done now and I love the more level stance. at least until these tires get worn down enough to warrant new, bigger tires.....

Doozi,

They just don't want to liability, because some other member had Daystar Spacers installed on the XREAs, and they disconnected the shocks.

Agree...just do it yourself or ditch XREAs all together.

i disconnected mine when installing my spacers. i may have had one drop of fluid from each side. there is a nut just off of the support that i seperated to get everything lose. i did not take it loose from the shock ever. just follow the line coming off the shock to the bracket and disconnect it there. i read that others had done the same thing with no issues. i have about 200 miles since the change and everything feels the same. good luck

First off disconnecting Xreas without ruining it is pretty easy. I told my whole system apart (when I had it on my 06 ) and never lost any fluid. I did put it back together and it worked fine.

I pulled my Xreas and put an all FJ stuff (shocks, springs, struts) I like it muck better , slightly stiffer , eliminated body roll better than Xreas , and has all around better handling IMO.

If I was you I would pull the Xreas out , knowing what I do now after experimenting with the FJ stuff. I also run a 1/2" top out spacer (1" lift ) in the front.

I want to up a little bit now so Im trying to figure my options of going with a 6pc DA lit ( which I already have ) or buying an OME spring, shock, strut set up. The only thing Im concerned about is I got a 1/2" lift at all 4 corners using the FJ stuff and afraid if I put a DS it will bring my loft with the springs ect... to a 3" front and a 2" rear. That maybe to high for what I want .

So air in the system doesn't matter? How did you cap off the end of the lines to avoid leaking fluid out of the lines as you drive?

I bought my '05 with X-REAS that was already lifted using OME springs and Toyota said it wouldn't cause any problems. You might want to find a dealer that has a better service dept.

I was thinking about air in the system, too... I mean, if it's a hydraulic system, air in the lines can't be optimal. I've read a couple of write-ups on installing springs/spacers without disconnecting any of the shocks/lines so if I decide to keep the X-REAS, I'll go that route.

CXS: I'm surpised that the stock shocks can handle the OME springs and that they don't max out the shocks' travel. Do you know which springs they are? They must be the "light" springs.

I have the 'medium' OME 884 in front and 895 in the rear. They may get maxed out but I haven't had it long enough to determine that yet.

I spoke to 4WD Parts and they quoted me over the phone $260 with wheel alignment.. I mentioned I had XREAS before the fact.

There was fluid in the lines , but there are disconnect points where you can take the whole system apart without leaking. I can't remember where they are but it really a pc of cake . There are many valves in the lines to prevent the leakage .
