Spam - Please read

It's gone to hell.

This site needs to be run like KTMtalk. Yes, it's rigid, but it's effective.
If it costs users some $ to have a clean forum then so be it. Way better than dealing with all this spam.

I totally agree.

The amount of people that cry about the 20 post minimum for threads, geesuz could you imagine if it were more strict :lmao:

Wouldn't need a minimum post value if the vetting platform here was the same as KTMTalk. Thats the point.

Amazing how in the past 3-5 days this forum has gone into the toilet.

And here *I* was hoping I'd be the death of this sub-forum.

One spam account has over 120 posts.... since this morning and nothings been done.... not a single admin or mod has been on? Really?

Oh I get it ;): my point was imagine if they had to do something more than enter an email and a password to get an account... pitchforks and torches...

I hear ya jrandom. I say let the tantrums fly.
Would be for the greater good.
Anyway I said my piece. Frustrated.

Well... time to close the account. Doesn’t seem like there’s anything we can do. No request for money or shirt sales to keep the forum clean. The delegated admins can’t keep up nor should they. Reading between the lines points to the top dog admin not caring and there is nothing we can do about that other than leave. Let the ad revenue go to zero and the restart with operators that care.

***edit
I’m going to run ad blockers now and not feel guilty about it here. No whitelist for you!

You barely broke 300 posts and already have given up. Your good-bye statements reads as if it is obvious you'll be missed.

Did you offer to be a mod? You know it is an unpaid job here on forum. These folks are volunteers.

LOL there is a spammer thread and the first reply was... SPAM! This is getting fk’n stupid! :loco::pound::rapture::spam2:

I'm not super computer literate but isn't this issue something that would be above a mods domain of control? Wouldn't it take someone writing 'code' or having an actual person verify each new account?

I'd be happy to help, just not sure I have the required skillset to be a mod, lol.

Who knows, but this forum is going to shit because of it.

Agreed.... I usually keep the 5th gen section up and skim it a couple times a day. But it's hit the point where I'm left wondering why I still bother checking anything on here because 95% of the new posts are spam. I applaud the mods for their efforts deleting what they can, but this obviously requires an admin to actually solve the problem with a software upgrade, captcha filter, whatever!

I checked this forum before sleeping the afternoon away, there are now 499 new posts since then. That's more than 5 times what the forum sees on a normal day, and I slept less than 6 hours.

Yeah, I'm not ready to throw in the towel here just yet, but I created an account the other place as Faux_Pro. Sick and tired of having my email alerts blow up with nothing but spam.

As posted elsewhere, I'm on top of it. Cleaned a lot of spam out, and will continue monitoring and "teaching" our forum how to detect and block spam.

Work in progress :(

Thanks for popping in with an update. You could be doing all kinds of great work behind the scenes, but if you don't let us know with an occasional update, it comes across as if nothing is being done. If it's going to take money for an upgrade, like I've said before I'm sure there are other individuals like myself would throw in some cash.

I'd also have no issue paying a "membership fee" to clean the spam up and tighten up the on boarding process for members to really confirm their email address is legit. I'd urge the AMDIN (not the mods..not their duty) to see what platform KTMTalk uses.

No money is required, but I do appreciate the offer. Again, I've done a few things and we should see a positive impact right away. In the meantime, I'll continue cleaning out the spam from older threads, while also adding new capabilities to reduce it as much as possible.

Just scrolling through a few of the treads I visit regularly, it looks as if whatever admin did is starting to work. Lots of old spam but nothing new. Lets hope this works.
