Spare Card Key or Flat Blank?

Looking for a flat key blank to keep as a spare for the door. Need something flat without a plastic top so that i can slide it into my wallet.

I know i can always drop back to using a magnetic hide-a-key, but would rather keep a door spare in my wallet if i can find one.

Anyone found a spare key that is a flat blank? Have seen those credit card key blanks but haven't seen one for a 5th gen.

I used to have one of those credit card keys and did keep in my wallet. It was for emergencies and pretty much single use. You might be able to use it a few times but that's it. The might be better now though.

Hi NCtrail4R,

Perhaps just go to a local locksmith and have a new key cut. Since it's only to be used as a door/Glovebox key, you can have them grind the plastic head stock off...

I have a flat key that I put in my wetsuit when I go surfing. They were able to make it at Home Depot. I just leave the chip'd key in my console vault while I'm away from the truck.

The flat key won't start your 4runner, so if you lose your chip'd key, you are outta luck!

I know I'm late to the party! My local hardware store was able to cut a flat key for me (they have chipped keys as well). I hid the flat key in a magnetic box lashed to the frame (hope I can remember where so I can unlock the car and release the hood, where I have my second original key. I hid one of the keys with the lock buttons inside the air cleaner box. I'd be afraid that one of the credit card keys might break off inside the lock on a cold day when it is a bit harder to turn.

When I had my LX450, I had the valet key in a hitch safe. I placed the key in a small plastic ziplock bags. It worked well and never got wet. Good luck!
