It is in your owner's manual, its do-able options, but only by dealer. IMO I think they should let the user that option to change it to fit each individual's preference.
how much did the dealer charge for this?

Here's what I did:
1.) Go on ebay, buy a Toyota blank with a chip in it. Usually about $10 for a transponder key. Usually about $29 if you want the transponder key with remote (like we get when we buy the vehicle -NON LIMITED).
2.) Take key to Home Depot, get cut for $1.00
2.) Get the techstream software cable from ebay (you can program many things with this including windows up/down & seatbelt chime). Can be had for around $39 if you "Make an offer" to a seller.
3.) Program your new key.
Done.
The question is, can we program one of these to work on our 4R with smart key :naughty:

Looking thru eBay. Which techstream cable to buy for 2010? 16 pin/22 pin?. I just have a key FOB and want to do the customization myself.
Nvmind. Just got it.
Just joined to forum today. Really appreciated your post. Before I purchase this cable and software, just wanted to verify that the software provides complete instructions on how to do the programming, including the key. Does it?Here's what I did:

can anyone confirm that this is still the case for 5th gen, or something similar? The way it was on my 4th Gen. is that if you use the key to open the door and not the remote you had like 10-15 seconds to put the chipped key in the ignition or the factory alarm would go off.
I had a walmart cut non chipped key hid up under the truck on my frame in case I locked my keys in the car.
Probably the same on the 5th but I hav'nt tried it yet.
