Spare Wheel Weight vs. Alloy Wheel Weight

Does anyone know how much heavier the steel spare wheel is compared to the 6 spoke stock alloy wheels on a 3rd gen? I would weight mine buy it wouldn't be a good comparison with oversize tires on the alloys and a stock size tire on the spare.

That seems like quite a bit, I wouldn't have guessed that much but what do I know.

I am going to try to find the weight specs for each tire. Once I know that I will be able to weigh the two different setups to determine a rough estimate. I am sure the tire weight does get lighter over time so this will not be an exact number.

FWIW...

After looking up both tire weights and weighing both wheels with tires it appears the steel spare is about 5lbs heavier. My spare is an unused P265/70R16 Bridgestone Dueler H/T right out of 1996. The tire on the alloy wheel is a P265/75R16 BFGoodrich Rugged Trail with approximately 20% tread remaining.

Advertised weight for the Bridgestone ranged from 36-38lb
Advertised weight for the BFG: 38.1lb
Of course these weights are for a brand new tire.

Steel spare with tire=66.8lb
Alloy wheel with tire=61.6lb
