Spark Plug Confusion

Decided to change the original spark plugs in my 2008 4Runner we've owned since Feb. 2008 that's clocked 95,150 miles. Not running or idling bad but seems like the mileage is down a little but hard to tell in the summer because 90% of the time it's got a 20.5' bass boat on the back of it. But on our Florida trip last fall it almost always averages 23 mpg @ 72 MPH once we get through the mountains and on flatter ground but was just at 22 mpg. Just a little over due.

Look them up and the OEM plug should be a Denso Spark Plug# K20HR-U11. Okay do a little research and find for about a buck more a plug I find a Denso Spark Plug # PKH20TT which is a double Platinum plug. Cool I'll do that. My local Advanced Aparts has them and I get a discount there.

Here is the confusion. Not mine but it was somebody's. So I start replacing them. Do the left or drivers harder side first just because when changing plugs a long time ago I learned to always do the hardest side first. Just seems to go better. Left or Drivers side plugs were all NGK LFR6C-11. Okay I expected the Denso Spark Plug# K20HR-U11 oh well! So I proceed with the right or passenger side and they are all the Denso Spark Plug# K20HR-U11's. So right bank Denso and left bank NGK's. Who knew!!!

Any how here are the pics of the 95,150 mile plugs. They all gapped right around .055" to .060" just a little out of spec.

Toyota used NGK in one head and Denso in the other. Something like they were assembled at different plants or something. There's a couple theories if you search the spark plug threads.

And the OEM copper plugs are rated for 30k only (which is underrated, but they are cheap to replace). Mine's were never changed out til I brought it home at 142k.

all the 3.4 v6 toyotas were the same as well, the Tacoma guys always freaked at first wondering if it was some shoddy work but Toyota does this at the factory for some reason.

they don't come preinstalled in the heads so they put them in at the factory or where the engines are assembled so they are different left to right on purpose, just nobody (even Toyota) seems to know why lol

Nice pics and you can tell those plugs are pretty worn. I bet the gap is off quite a bit. I'm sure the new plugs will help a lot.

i did my plugs last week, pass side were DENSO, and driver side were NGK, i thought someone must've only changed one side, i guess they were never changed.
