My Duralast Gold set I posted earlier has very high resistance for mag core. My spare CarQuest set I measured the resistance and they are true mag core.

They measure 1.5k ohm, 1.6k ohm and 1.8k ohm. I’m taking the Duralast set off and putting on the CarQuest set tomorrow. It is obvious now that not all Mag Core wire sets are created equal. Part Number 35-6050 WIR

That really dosent surprise me. That why it's best to measure the wires to see what you have :)

I remember worrying about "made in Japan" back in the 70's.
Fast forwards 30 yrs and Japan puts out solid stuff and, now China fakes in almost every aspect of life we have to worry about. Times have changed.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were marked fake or generic etc. Those are almost identical to the legit ones. So people are thinking they are getting a good deal on an NGK or denso plug. When it reality, they are complete junk and not even the correct part. :(

I just put the 1k ohm per foot wire set from CarQuest-Advanced Auto on and the engine wants to light off as soon as I tag the starter. Cold or hot. The autozone duramax mag core wire set is constructed nice but not a true mag core wire set.

Hmm, that's interesting. Could it be that carbon core wires has a hand in producing the extended 5vz crank times before firing up? How's the radio reception with the solid cores?
Advance only has 1 part number for advance spark plug wires, 35-6050. Core description is coming up as suppression core. Would these be the one?

No almost 2sec delay on cold start?

Good question. I’ve not used OEM carbon core wires in years. Since the late 90’s.....

FWIW I've got almost 390k on Original Plug Wires and Coils. I know because I asked the PO that I bought it from, who bought the truck with 40k. He said he changed the spark plugs around 200k, and then never got around to changing them again. I'm putting OEM wires on when I do my VC gaskets. The wires themselves are fine, but the clips and protectors are all crumbling. Can't got wrong with something that lasts that long!

When I pull them, I'll post up the resistance values.

No, lag the starter and it starts. I’ll keep an eye on its behavior. However, it’s defiantly different than before.

Well that's a solution to the almost 2 second lag start if others can verify the same result. :-)

Whats the life expectancy of your style of wire? Same as the ngk densos?

I am curious what side effects would be etc.

At key on on American vehicles it runs the fuel pump for a few seconds to charge the fuel rail. From what I seen in the drawing and hear Toyota May only run the fuel pump then the key goes to start.

That may be the delay cranking it when it’s sat a while.

Yes, that is likely the case on the 4Runners. It is definitely the case on older Toyotas... (mid 90's and earlier). I have never heard the fuel pump prime, but most Toyota pumps are basically silent so it is sometimes hard to tell.

This is easy to test. Just supply power to you pump before you turn the key. If it fires instantly at cold. Then we know for certain that's the cause. I would say you guys are correct because pre EFI the float bowls would empty themselves out in a few days /week etc. This was so if the rigs set a long period of time. The carburetor would not gum up.

I could see Toyota EFI using the same principle to keep the injectors from clogging. Just dont fire the pump until needed.

The rail would be pressurized if the engine was hot and shut off for a little while and that explains exactly what we are seeing.

I’ll admit it feels more zippy with the car quest wire set that have between 1.5 K and 1.8k ohms. They have 1/3’d the resistance of the mag core set from Autozone.

Time and mpg checking will tell.

Yes. I know when I put my NGK wires and denso on. My truck ran a pile better. I also cleaned the MAF sensor and shot the throttle body with brake cleaner.
