Speaker questions

I'm looking at putting all new speakers in my 03. I don't have the JBL system or anything, just the basic six speaker system. I'm wanting to add a sub and amp (JL audio's stealth box looks pretty sweet, but pricey) Anyway, what size are the factory speakers? I thought I had heard that the front and rear door speakers are 6x9's, is this right? What size are the tweeters? I'm stereo stupid so I need all the help I can get.

I'd probably be looking into Infinity speakers for the doors and tweeters, since I've always had good luck with them in the past. Any special things I should look for when I go to replace them? Will the new speakers use the exisiting wiring harnesses and mounting brackets? Let me know.

The front door speakers are 6x9 while the rear speakers are 6x6 1/2 (they also fit 6x6 3/4). I'm not sure what size the tweeters are but I'm looking myself....I want to replace them too. If I find out for sure, I'll be sure to post if you'll do the same!

As for special considerations, there is definitely one big one...the stock speakers are very unqiue in that they have a built-in spacer that--according to other members--many shops have demanded $100 per door to replicate....which is TOTAL bs. Mine were done by circuit city and they used these generic spacers that cost $30 total, so don't let someone con you into paying anything like $100 for "custom" adapters...you simply don't need them. In fact, if you've got a scroll saw or a dremmel, trace out the pattern with one of your recently removed stock speakers and cut it out. You can use any material, but I'd recommend throwing some dynamat on there to help baffle any reverberations you might experience with wood or anything else...you can find that stuff on Crutchfield. In fact, you can find everythign you ever wanted to know on Crutchfield (check out the link to my stereo install thread) but search pricegrabber.com or yahoo shopping to get the best prices....Crutchfield can afford all that extra help because they charge top dollar. If you're not going to install yourself, the shop will find all the appropriate dash kits, wire harnesses, and etc that you'll need, but just don't let them railroad you on those spacers!!!

Thanks for the reply! I think I'm going to have a local car audio shop take a look at it to see what they think. They do great work from what I've heard and are very reasonably priced.
