Speaker Type; Coxial vs Component

I was just curious about which people prefer. "Hi end" 6x9 coaxial speakers vs 6 1/2" component speakers.

The reason I ask is because I am upgrading my front speakers in my 04 runner from a set of Infinity 5 1/4" component speakers to more bass up front. The 6x9 speakers go lower (35Hz) but then the tweeter is at my feet. The 6 1/2" components only go to 45Hz but the tweeter is higher.

Which do you think is better in terms of imaging and bass response. I think that 45hz from the component set should be fine because I also have a subwoofer. I'm wondering more from an imaging point of view.

Realistically you won't get any real bass out of the 6.5" driver, it just doesn't have the cone area to move much air. That said, if you place the tweeter properly and have other drivers that produce decent bass then the image should be far superior to a coax in the bottom of the door.

Do you have a subwoofer in the car?

I do have a subwoofer. I dont know that I have any other options for placing the tweeter other than the factory location.

I don't know what year of 4runner we are talking about, is there a factory tweeter location high on the door? If so, it'll be fine.

You are going to get good base out of any 6x9 speaker because in a sense, it's almost like a really small subwoofer. The only problem is, putting 6x9's in the front doors involves some modification. Also, a lot of coaxial speakers wont fit in either doors because the tweeter on the speaker sticks out to much, thus hitting the door pannel when it's put back on... either way, with a sub in the back, and nice comps up front... that thing will be bumpin!

Your not going to get much bass out of a 5 1/2 a 6x9 will give you bass and tweeter will give you your highs. I got 6 1/2 tr600 jl in the front and it puts out nice mids decents lows. Infinity kappa tweeters Love these little guys if you are getting tweeter pick these up.

Also I have kenwood kfc in the back I don't really hear them have it tune out to front and sub. I'm carrying a nice 12" Fi q sub in the back with a 500:1 jl amp. all door speakers are powered by 300:4 jl amp. pioneer 880prs.

I can't speak for anyone else but I like my tweeter 3-6 inches above my speakers. Closer to my face and higher up. Sadly my 2005 4runner was recently rear-ended by a waste management truck and will be out of commission for a very long time.
