Plug and play, should work for 1992 on up according to their website. I used two of them in my 3rd gen. Allows you to instal aftermarket speakers without cutting or splicing the wiring harness.

Two were used in my front doors for a year or two, the other two have not been out of the package. Removed when I did a full audio upgrade including thicker gauge wiring.

Would these work if I have the component (seperate) speakers in the front?

I wouldn't think so, no. Factory components have some sort of a crossover within the mid woofer...replacing the speaker would disable the factory tweeters. Aftermarket components generally use a bare wire screw down binding post to a crossover, then another wire from crossover each separate.
If you are replacing with coaxial speakers and factory wiring harness, these should be the ticket. You can use coaxial speakers in the front regardless of the original setup, but you would lose the use of the tweeter pods by the mirrors
