Special Ordering New 4R--Dash Possible?

I went to a local dealer a little while back . . . at the time I thought I wanted a Trail Ed. without Nav . . . I was told it would need to be special ordered. As a result of T4R members generous help (thank you), I now realize KDSS is important for my needs (and thus includes Nav), however, this has got me wondering . . .

While a Trail Ed. with factory leather is not offered . . . and beyond my budget at the Trail level anyway . . . I would really love to have the all black (plastic) dash and all black center armrest section (front seat center armrest/rear seat air console--between the 2 front seats) that the black leather interiors come with rather than the combination gray and black that comes standard on the Trail Ed. The differences in the parts only relates to the color of this plastic (from gray to black in lower section of the right and left dash and in the center console).

Substituting for black plastic parts would seem simple enough, but in practice, is this request possible on a special order?

I really appreciate any insight/help with this in advance of following-up with salesmen--thanks very much!

you're not going to be able to special order that. at best, you could swap the trim panels yourself, but the parts will probably be pretty costly.

As far as Toyota is concerned, KDSS and NAV are two separate options. Each of the 12 US sales regions determine which options they will bundle for sales within their region.

Were I to buy a TE, I'd WANT KDSS and NOT want factory NAV. I am pretty certain there are regions which have TEs with KDSS without NAV for sale.

Here are the regions in your area, if you want to explore. I do not know if dealers will swap outside their region. Many forum members have traveled to buy the configuration they wanted.

New England Region -- Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island
Greater New York Region -- New York, New Jersey, Connecticut
Central Atlantic Region -- Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, District of Columbia

I am pretty certain there are regions which have TEs with KDSS without NAV for sale.

Almost every Trail I've seen in Colorado has KDSS without NAV... the others have KDSS/NAV.

So wait . . . are you saying that if I order a Bentley, THEN I would be able to have my all black dash?!? Outstanding, thanks . . . problem solved! ;o)

As far as the KDSS and NAV being a combined option, this was based on what I was told by the dealer and appeared to be further supported by Toyota website:

Build a Toyota | Build a Custom Toyota Vehicle Package (If click on link and then go to "package," under the selection's *description* it describes the options available for the Trail as either Nav or KDSS & Nav (does not allow one to select merely KDSS).

Like Philsey said.......it depends on which of the 12 regions and what that region orders from mother Toyota. Like put in zip 80012 for CO and you will see they get them with the KDSS package only for $1750 without Nav. So the dealer there will probably spin the tale about how they don't make them with Nav.lol

Many people on here have had to go outside their region to get what they want .Just have to put in zip codes for other regions to find what they carry.

Lol pretty much. If you are buying a porsche or a bentley or something like that they allow you to choose dash colors and even customize your oh S&^t handles and stuff. For the rest of us, manufacturers offer trim packages.

BMW offers this also through the "Individual" program, but my understanding is that it adds quite a bit of price.
