Speciality insurance companies to cover mods?

Like many of the members I have quite a bit off money in my rig with mods etc.......does anyone know of a company that can insure for the true value of everything mods included and not the ridiculous low kbb most companies would pay? I have tried about all including hagerty for my 99 3rd gen. My worry is it's probably worth around 15-16k but if it got totaled insurance would probably give me less than half that.

Thanks
Alex

Have you talked to your current provider? You'll need to bring it by an office for inspection as well as provide detailed records of costs of modifications. It may cost a fortune if you find a company that will insure it though. Hagerty only really does low use (low miles per year) collectibles to my knowledge.

Yeah I talked to travelers who I have currently but the problem is I don't have receipts for anything lift , whitson rack, shockworks bumper etc.....my fault perhaps but I am not a receipt keeper

Therein lies your problem....and mine to a large extent, though much of mine is that I do the work myself....so if I wanted to charge an insurance company of the "loss" of a vehicle to which I've done countless hours of body work (as just one example) I can't really bill them for it since they aren't going to recognize that as done by a 'professional body shop'.

Moral of the story.....KEEP your receipts and scan them into a doc to keep in a file on your computer.

The only other option now is to try and get an offroad shop to help you and give you "estimates" for what those parts would cost now....as well as contacting any vendors you ordered parts from....or going through your email to find emailed receipts of those orders to bundle for your insurance carrier to look over.

Any business should be able to provide you with a receipt. They keep those silly things for quite some time.

I have my vehicle insured through USAA for over twice it's "value". I simply called them and e-mailed receipts and photos.

I know that USAA is notoriously easy to work with, so your experience may differ drastically.

I'll try to figure out how much it raised my premium. It has been awhile.

Most providers do this. My brother has $10k of mods insured on top of his normal insurance.

Allstate will cover mods. I totaled a FJ and Allstate paid me dollar for dollar for the mods. Didn't even make me give receipts. I believe I put a rider on the policy for modifications up to $10k.

My insurance American National added a $9000.00 rider to my current insurance for a small fee. In case a of a total I get 9k plus fair market value.

Was that the top out or could you have gone higher....with proof of costs of course?

Not sure if there was a max amount, I told him what each item cost and he wrote it down added it up and put it on the policy. The cost I gave him did not include any labor as I have done all the work.

Thanks....

I'm with USAA....my '91 Toyota Hilux SAS was dropped by them when I tried to do exactly what we're talking about. They tried to claim they ONLY insure vehicles used for being driven to/from work or school. Got ugly and I went to State Farm.

I'm only back with them now due to cost....I have 6 vehicles so the multicar discount from them is huge.

Thanks fellas I'll call Allstate.

A lot of work (cam gusset tabs) I've done myself I bought it with the shockworks bumper and done all mods myself so it's tricky for me to show true value and all the ziebart coating etc.....

No one wants to touch it strange I can't be the first person with a modded 4Runner to try and get extra coverage
