Spectre6000's Crazy Idea Thread #3: Who Needs Floormats? Bedlined Carpet!

This isn't a completely original idea, but I'm thinking about taking it to a new level... I've been entertaining the idea of WeatherTech floor mats, but I don't really like the lips or the looks. I think this guy might have the right idea! He essentially coated the carpeted pieces of his cargo area with bed liner.

Pros:
-Fit is perfect
-Looks pretty cool
-Bed liner is virtually indestructible
-Fit between lined carpet and trim pieces may help keep water out from under carpets
-Can be tinted to match interior color, contrasting color, something ridiculous
-Potentially less expensive than WeatherTech mats
-Complete coverage

Cons:
-Water can get under the carpet to the metal (which it can stock and with mats)
-Might not flex as well as necessary in certain places (i.e. folding seat backs)
-Only get one chance to not screw it up

What am I missing?

Has anyone done it in a 3rd Gen? Where have you seen this? I know it's not original, but I can't find references to anyone doing it save the posted thread. I may be searching for the wrong terms on Google (T4R's search function is terrible).

I think if you read the whole thread you'll notice he removed as much of the carpet as possible so you're not applying bed lining to the carpet but rather the plastic underneath. I don't think the cheap material in the 3rd gen would hold up nearly as well to the carpet removal nor the bed liner.

If you are planning something like this why not just cut out the carpet or remove everything behind the rear seats. I've seen pictures of this done and can't say I am a big fan. Looks just like it describes.... a no carpet 4runner with bed liner applied directly to the interior. He did a awesome job and I believe had a better base to work with from the beginning but best of luck if you attempt it.
