Spidertrax spacers and lug length

Spidertrax spacers and stud length

I've been digging around in the forums for info on the Spidertrax spacers. I saw a few people posting in the 4th gen forums that the studs were a bit too short and didn't extend all the way through the lugs. Can anyone tell me if the 5th gens have this same issue of the studs being a little too short? Or do the lugs fit fully onto them?

put mine on this weekend. and the rear studs are at the perfect length and but the front are about a half an inch short so i pulled out one and have ordered 12 new studs for the front.
 
On mine the front lugs were shorter than the rears, The lug nuts only went on about halfway. Worked fine though, Checked the torque when I did my lift and all was good. All-Pro Offroad sells ET style lugs for their wheel spacers which should work fine with the Spidertrax spacers. Check out Toyota Wheel Spacers. Taken from their site..."'ET' style lug nuts are required to install spacers on the front hubs, giving more thread engagment on the relatively short factory studs."

$9 for a set of 12 ET style lug Nuts. I would first contact them just to make sure they will work.
 
any reason not to just go with the All Pro hub-centric spacers (which presumably come with the longer lugs) in the first place?
 
And on that note, which studs are short? The ones in the 4runner or the ones in the Spidertrax spacer? From what I'm gathering, it sounds like the Toyota studs are short, so the lugs that hold the spacer onto the hub don't fully go onto the studs. That sound right?
 
So do you guy have any concerns having these spacers... I would like to put some on once i get my new bumper done. I have 315/70/17 Tires wit 17x9 rims 5.5bs

The shorter lugs are on the front hubs. Correct, the Supplied lug nuts in the Spidertrax kit are standard Acorn style, therefore only half the threads on the lug nut were utilized. Going with the ET style lug nut from All Pro will provide double the thread engagement but still will not use the whole lug nut. I did a ton of research before I got mine and no one had issues with only using half the lug nut, Not sure how it would hold up in a crash, but mine worked fine offroad and on.

Most Aftermarket aluminum wheels are just as thick as the wheel spacers, that why Discount used the ET style lug nuts when they mounted my wheels.

IMO, I wouldn't use them on your rig with that size tire, you'll have to trim more around the mud flap since your tire will stick out another 1.25". The front would be a concern too, but you mentioned an aftermarket bumper.
 
I emailed Spidertrax about the front stud length issue, and they responded:

"Thanks for the interest in Spidertrax wheel spacers. The late model Toyota trucks front wheel studs are a little bit shorter then the rear. We did take this into consideration when designing the spacers. The lug nut for the spacers have the same amount of engagement as the factory wheels do which is determined by the stud length not the lug nut. Depending on the length of the lug nut that is used you may see extra threads in the open end lug nut. If you were to cut the end off of a factory closed end lug nut you would see the same thing. I hope this helps and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns."

This is interesting and also reassuring. :)

With the stock wheels and stock tire size, it's just for looks. If you are going with wider tires or wider aftermarket wheels that don't have the correct offset and backspacing, then you can sometimes use spacers to push them out and prevent rubbing.

So technically they are for solving fitment issues with wheels and tires, but I think most people on here are using them for looks. :)

I believe they also provide a wider wheelbase for more stability, not just looks.

Just to note, the All-Pro ET lug nuts do not work with spidertrax. I ordered a set of the ET lugs since my front studs are a little short and the extra long (ET) portion does not fit into stud hole causing the but to be too long (higher than the spacer itself), so the wheel cannot be mounted. I can take some pictures for reference if anyone is interested.

Which studs did you order, I've been looking at these (might be different because I have a 4th gen not a 5th gen): Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - rb610462

Did you have to remove the rotor to change the studs? I've been searching for a walk through for how to do this since it's new to me.

Could you tell me where you ordered these wheel lugs? Do you happen to have a part number or description of what you ordered. I would like to do the same as I have a set of 1.25" spacers that I would like to put on my 4th gen. Thanks in advance.
