Spoiler Removal - 3rd Brake Light

So I'm removing my spoiler which is my next mod. I'll call it a "garage door mod" since I stupidly tried to pull my truck in the garage with the rear gate open and smashed the spoiler.

My question is which 4th Gen has the third light w/o a spoiler? I want to find one to put it on which I assume uses the same wiring requiring just some cutting of the steel where it will go.

TIA!

They also sell 3rd party spoilers that come with LED brake light in it. Might be easier to do.

No matter how hard we try, we never seem to seal up things as well as they do at the factory. I wouldn't want your actual door to start rusting up inside due to water leaking in and wrecking the power window assembly.

You can ebay a 4th gen spoiler w/light.

I'm not a fan of the spoiler anyway so I'll add the SR5 BlackWorks mentioned. All that's needed is a few minutes with an angle grinder to cut access for the wires and mounting. That and filling the holes.

My Sr5 didn't come with a spoiler. I saw someone recently remove a spoiler and I think they used rubber plugs with silicon to seal the holes.

My 07, SR5 didn't have a spoiler when I bought it and does have the light.

Great, to confirm this as that's the one I need. Can you post a pic and/or give me dimensions? Searching just turns up spoilers with LED's etc.

Hope these help. I'm not sure if this is what you need or not :) Let me know if you want something else and I can go grab it.

Perfect Terri, much appreciated! Nice Great Dane sticker, my daughter has a tripod St Dane (Great Dane/St Bernard) that's still a pup. I like big dogs!

Thanks! That's my boy :) I've since removed the sticker and he can't get into the 4Runner anymore :(

Since its slightly related... Anyone try putting LED bulbs in the factory 3rd brake lamp holder? I've been debating if I want to tackle that since I'm a little wary of 3rd party LED taillamps...

Pfft, I just barely realized this weekend that it is one piece without bulbs. Bet that's cheap to replace if it goes out.

You're talking about using the OEM tailight lens and just mounting your own LEDs behind it right? How about a length of flexible LED strip wired right into the factory pigtail. Would mean slight modification/cutting to the backside of the assembly so you could insert the strip.

Hadn't looked close enough at the tailight, but maybe the same oven bake procedure used on headlight disassembly could be used to seperate the front lens from the back?

Hey Chris did you just damage the spoiler or liftgate too ? I think it was knights4 who removed his might be able to find his posts ?

Just the spoiler Mike, it's pretty fragile. It split and popped the light out at all of maybe 1mph. I recall Knight4's thread and suspect I have the same plugs he used, right now duct tape is doing the job.

That sucks , but like you said I'm not big fan of the spoiler ! I thought he did a decent job on his but getting to the light a hassle ?

Getting to the light wiring is a snap though cutting the access isn't. I can cheat and have my son-in-law bring it to work, he manages the front end of his brother's body shop. ;)

I have a good spoiler light if anyone wants one to experiment, just make a fair offer and it's yours.

I'm buttoning mine up without a spoiler or third brake light. I figure if I get tagged I'll add one but really see no need right now. Despite my removal process being necessitated by circumstances I rather like the look without it.

Some pics w/o the spoiler. It needs a bit of touch-up as I did a quick job plugging the holes. You can see the plug covering the 1" hole and notice I left the clip in place since I was in a bit of a hurry. Honestly it's not a high priority as you probably noticed my tailgate has a few dents.

In the mean time paint it red or orange . Think I remember a guy from Va. about his st law third brake light , not sure about Colo. Doesn't look that bad Chris !

I don't think it'll be an issue, the police have more to concern themselves with in this town.
