Sport flare mounting question

Bought a set of sport flares for my sr5.

My sr5 came with the dinky chrome molding. I have all of the flares on except for the door piece. Can anyone tell me how that piece mounts to the door? I'm expecting to drill the door, but what's the mounting hardware for it?

It's held on with clips. You can only get the correct ones from Toyota, but I know other members here have put them on with some clips from Autozone or a parts store.

The Toyota clips are square, and it's pretty much impossible to make a square hole with a round bit, so I think you'll have to use some clips from the parts store.
 
blacktpgsr did this. You can look at his thread for info. I believe its on page one. Liny4runner also did it, but he used a method which didnt involve any drilling, which is what I plan to do. Check out his thread too

Didn't they put limited flares on? I'm thinking OP is talking about the flares that you and I have.

He might be talking about the flares like mine and others with the sport model. They look very similar to the Limited flares but are slightly different.

Hepar, please elaborate. I wasn't aware that sport flares were any different than that limited flares.

The base of the flare where it meets up towards the base of the doors are slightly different. The sport flares are more tapered where as the limited flares are more square. I only know this because I gave my old running boards to Theizzardking and he has a limited. They fit, but they needed some work to get them to line up. That's when I noticed the difference.

bought my set on ebay

$150 for the set

they weren't perfect, but at least better than the chrome ones.

still looking a bit odd though without the door flares.

So did you get the same flares I have, or are they the wide color matched flares? Both are sport flares

Looks like you got a good deal! Snap us a pic of them on (with or without the missing pieces) if ever you get a chance.
 
my flares are the unpainted rough black plastic ones.

i'll take some pictures shortly.

need to finish some things

anyone with further information on how to mount the door flares?
 
I'm assuming you're talking about the 'black SR5 flares'? I picked a set up from a wreck for $80.00 last summer (see below). I don't have a photo of the exact assembly but the OEM clips are squared off at the edges and they came with rectangular rubber gaskets that go underneath to protect the paint. I'm certain you can get a similar part as mentioned above or fashion something up. I'll try to snap a photo of the assembled part if I get the opportunity later on.

yep, those are it

looking at the flare, there are holes facing the bottom of the flare and side. which holes do you use? if you use the side, how are you supposed to get a bolt on there? do you need to drill holes in your door?
