Sport Rally 5 Build Thread

This is the long awaited build thread that everyone has been waiting for. What better thread is there to follow than one from a 4runner noob that has pretty much copied already existing build threads? Exactly.

This is really more for my own reference of the things I have done to my 4runner and if it provides any use to any others that would be an added bonus. I love working on stuff so I have done almost all of the mods myself.

I bought my SR5 4runner is August of 2015. Mods to date (1-13-16) are:

Self dimming mirror with garage openers
Heated seats kit
Front Runner Roof Rack (Slimline II Tray - 1255(W) X 1762(L))
40" LED Light bar with AOB switch (Pretty much a Cree)
Bilstein 5100s and Old Man Emu 2884(front) 2895E(rear)

The lighter stuff:
N-Fab nerf bars
Husky front and middle floor mats
Canvasback rear floor mat(third row compatible)
MAXpider middle row floor mat
LED interior light swap

Nice box to go with my rack

I picked up a Husky box form homedepot today mounted it to my front runner rack. How easy it was is one of the reasons I really like this rack. As long as you can mount something with 8mm hardware you are good to go.

I picked thick metal brackets and other hardware at Ace to mount the box to the rack. 4 8mm x 50 bolts, 4 wing nuts, 4 lock washers, 4 large washers.

Drilled four holes in the box so that the four bolts could go into it. Then I used the metal brackets for extra holding support. I am using wing nuts because I want to be able to remove the box without tools. You have to remove the box from the inside and since I can lock it, it will be moderately safe. Certainly will make it difficult for someone.

I drove around with it today with some stuff in it and it went well. Little extra wind noise. Otherwise you can't tell its there. It wont fit in my garage with it on so that is why I wanted it to be fast to attach and remove. I will mainly use it for camping, trips, and work.

The best part is I can access what is inside without removing form the roof. Makes it very handy.

Holy, I have the same box and a Axial Yeti 1/10 RTR as well. I purchased the box for when I use to race my TLR SCTE 2.0 at SDRC. Although, I'm planning to get a Baja Spy Rack, I wanted to mount the box up top as well for 3-4 sets of snowboard boots and a snowboard bag.

The rims are mickey Thompson deegan 38 pro 4s. 17"x9".
Tires are 285/75/r17 Nitto terra grappler g2.

They are set to the lowest setting.

Too funny. I just finished building the yeti. Only drove a couple packs on it so far. Last time I drove it it was covered in mud and I didn't want to out it back in the 4runner. This will be perfect for it. In the photo you can't tell how much I have in the box. There is an aircompressor, recover equipment, wheel Chocks, first aid kit, garbage bags, yeti, charger and some batteries. There was still plenty of room to add more as well.

I was thinking snow boars will go on the other side of the rack. I need to get a mount for them first.

I purchased some brackets from Front Runner that allows you to mount stuff on any side of the rack. They come in threes, which is kinda lame, four would make a lot more sense. I only needed two so I have one extra now.

I never really liked my light bar being so high up so I used the brackets to move the light bar in front of the rack. Now I have the full length of the rack again and my snowboard will fit nicely without hitting a light bar.

The down side is I think it is actually a little noisier with the wind now. Not sure though. It has been pretty windy here so I am not sure if it is just that. I will give it a week and see.
