sport x-reas questions

so what is it that usually goes bad on the x-reas system? the shocks them selves or the control module thing on the frame or both? & how do you know they are bad, do they start leaking?

seems like a ridiiculous price to repair something like the shock system that will eventually always go bad.

The shocks start to leak and you'll see oil on the shock.

I have two '06 Sports, one 4WD and one 2WD. Both started leaking at less 100,000 miles. Have replaced both with Bilstein 5100's over 50,000 miles ago and really like them. Adjusted the fronts on the 2WD up 1.75", and on the 4WD up 2.25" along with a 0.75 spacer on the rear, all with the original stock springs. That and with 265/70-17 tires really looks good. I did have to replace the CV boot clamps on the 4WD with worm style clamps as they started to leak with the added angle from the lift, but all good since.

I also have a 2012 Limited with XReas, and one of the shocks has started to leak at around 70,000. I have a set of Bilstein 5100's waiting in the garage and will be replacing one of these days. And I just bought a 2008 F150 2WD and I replaced it's stock shocks with Bilstein 5100's too and set them to 1" lift. Yep, I like them...
