Spotted Diesel HILUX x2 Ohio

Driving home yesterday I ran across a trailer hauling two modded Hilux headed south on 270.

I cannot imagine what they would be ding here, but its still cool to see them.

I've seen 'em around Ft. Bliss in El Paso as well with US Gov. plates...pretty sure they're military trucks. It's too bad the government gets them and we don't, since I'd love to pick one up for hauling cargo and light towing. :tsk:
 
How cool, love those wheels. ARB racks! pretty cool stuff. Did you happen to look at the truck that was pulling them to see where it was from?

No plates on these yet, but it is possible that is their destination.

This truck is available in the Middle East, pretty sure they would not need to ship them from the us. When I was in Kuwait in 2000 they had Tacomas there from the US with no doors for the operators.

Tractor was from Ohio also. Wish I knew what was really going on. Lol. I do like the wheels.
 
Its possible these are going to a shop in the US to get outfitted for the UN or military. Theres a company here in NC that takes these and outfit them with armor then ship them all over the world. Its pretty neat.
 
Lol we got a crap load of them overhere.

Those are actually the 2011-2014 model, they come with the 3.0 1kd and 2.5 2kd diesel engines.

Pretty reliable cars (It's a yota so go figure:lmao:), some have a few issues with the valve and turbo related stuff.

2016 model got a huge facelift.
 
I saw a silver one driving on the street here in Columbus, in Grandveiw twice now - has to be the same one.

My vote is for a 2014+ Lexus. Looks like their new spindle grill.

These Hiluxs are still ugly as sin and their beloved diesels feel about as peppy as the 22R in my 86 pickup. Sure they're reliable as all hell, but I wouldn't drive one. I actually didn't like driving them AT ALL in Afghanistan. Uncomfortable, loud, ugly, etc. etc. The Prado we got with the cooled center console? That was more my style.

I was rocking the wife's 2016 Camry. It does look like a Lexus in the front.
