spraypainting advice

well, I finally got the spraypaint for my "bling" wipers... it is duplicolor's METALCAST MC201 Blue Anodized. Below you will find a color... I was wondering if this would be a mistake. I'm also considering doing my wheels in t his color and my decals...

And any advice on how I should do this with my wipers.... I know to take the blades off, but I don't know how to do this properly....

I can B.S. and tell you that it's cool and great mod, but i won't. I looks like it belongs on sports compact not the truck. Maybe I'm just out of date on style. Anyway, just mine two cents.
 
GOOD GOD---DONT DO IT! Are you doing this to your truck, or a 1994 honda civic with an unpainted body kit, huge rear spoiler that is angled up and not down, with body panels 'borrowed" from 2 other color civics? Oh yeah--does it have a melon launcher for an exhaust?
 
woah man!! U guys crack me up... well. There is this other color that I am considering....for the wheels at least.. I may just do the wipers in this shiny black... can someone go to Duplicolor's Website and give me advice on what product(s) to use for the wipers.. I want this CHROME sh*t GONE!!!... the point of this color was the fact that it matched my lock knobs I have...

the color I'd like to use for the wheels is:

WP102 - Graphite... (it don't have a decent pic to snag)

The color below also looked good on a wheel:

fyi, normal flat black replacement wipers are 30 bucks at your local autozone/pep boys. you should pick some up. chrome wiper problem solved.

if you're gonna spray paint your wheels that rainbow bright meets richard simmons blue/pink color make sure you paint the rest of your truck metallic pink.
 
one more thing...don't defile your vehicle with spray paint. wheels should be powdercoated not spraypainted. spray paint will flake off and discolor due to heat from the brakes.
 
as I said.. you guys CRACK ME UP!!! well, I might do the wipers at autozone, dunno.. I'll see if a family member wouldn't mind taking me there....($$ reasons) cause

I dunno - just playing with ideas before I get down to doing it..
 
I don't' think I will be doing the wheels due to the difficulty in doing them... I will probably get the wipers tomorrow at schucks.. someone's taking me :happy bda shopping tomorrow there... my bday was officially yesterday (the 4th).. I am now 23.. I'm trying to find a use for the blue spraypaint... might tag someone's 4runner with a card tomorrow (the person lives in my building) and see if he may want the spraypaint - his 4runner is the color of my spraypaint...

The spraypaint I was wanting to do the wheels with - the granite color - was a special wheel paint.....

It's your vehicle, do what you want to it. I will agree on getting the wiper blades replaced, don't bother with paint, because prepping the wipers to take the paint permanently is way too much work.

I have to agree on NOT painting the wheels. The tires would have to be dismounted, then the wheels sandblasted (if steel) or chemically treated (if alloys), if you would paint them with any permanence. Powdercoating or anodizing is best for durability and color fastness, but neither method is inexpensive like a can of paint.

I do like to see some vehicles with color keyed wheels, I was toying with the idea of coloring my winter wheels (they will be steel) when I get them to match the Pacific Blue of my runner, just having the plastic chrome centercaps. It wouldn't look bad.

I should probably take the time to Photoshop a picture of my truck and change the color of the wheels so I get a good idea of what it would look like before committing.
 
It's your vehicle, and you are the person that has to feel good about how it looks. The one thing you must be aware of is that these two parts (wheels and wiper arms) are exposed to very harsh duty. If you look at these parts closely they get beat-up pretty bad. Canned spray paint will NOT hold up. If you insist in painting them I suggest you have them powder coated (best) or painted with acrylic urethane with urethane hardener. I have painted wheels with acrylic urethane and they looked great ever since (over ten years ago).

They would have to prep the wheel which involves one or both of:

A) abrasive blasting to remove any old finish (remove clearcoat usually on alloy wheels)

and/or

B) chemical etch to clean the wheel to the bare aluminum alloy/steel and produce a good bond with the coating

Powder coat is usually a plastic enamel, which is attatched electrochemically, then baked on. Very durable, unbelievable colors, and did I mention durable?

It's NOT cheap. Probably will cost about as much as a set of new alloys.
 
well, I'll probably just stick with what I have ---

I got new wipers today - singles, not doubles...

I got fog lights... Xtreme XT858...

I also got a Deer Warning (the black one - not chrome!!)...

I am having most of this installed tomorrow.. the fog lights I don't know about yet...
 
I have found out that it is hard to beat the factory wheels, stick with what you got. and please no spray paint, I really dont think you will like how it looks after you do it
