spring and spacer lift?

Any reason an OME spring lift couldn't be used in conjunction with say daystar spacer kit?

I realize the CV angles, but it doesn't look like it would take much to drop the front end an inch- or 2.

limitation in shock travel/length would be one thing.

droop comes into play as well.

there's only soo much you can do w/ the geometry of the stock setup.
 
I'm talking about using a OME springs and shock with maybe a daystar spacer kit.. Not using stock shocks. Just wondering if the spacers would fit with the OME kit..

What would that give for lift a good 5 inches?
 
like I said, limitation in the OME shock would be one thing since it doesn't account for the additional lift.

Also, those ome coils are pretty damn difficult to compress... that'd be mighty interesting to see if you can even compress them 2" more than they already need to be to get them together.

lastly, if you want lots of lift, just get coilovers so you can crank them as high as you want. of course overdoing it will mean no downward travel/droop

What do you mean by cranking them as high as you want? do the OME kits have a ride height adjustment?

Well I want to stuff a true 33 inch tire on.. but I want useable lift/ travel.. without chopping up the fender flares if I can avoid it..

Coilovers such as Downey, Swayaway and Donahoe Racing. These are adjustable coil/shocks. OME's are traditional coil/shock like the stocks (non xreas).

true 33" as in 33x12.5? this means 305/75/16 (for 16"). Attempting to fit 285/75/16 will be challenge in itself (which is not a true 33" tire) so trying to fit true 33" tires will be very challenging.

This will require trimming everywhere and also getting the correct wheel specs to accomodate for the tire. You shouldn't have any problems w/ the compression travel (may run into upper control arm rubbing the tires depending on wheel spec). You'll hit your front body mount at the door jam (dunno of any way around outside of cutting a good chunk off). Inner frame will rub as I rub w/ 285's already. Front bumper will need more trimming compared to 285's.

If you don't want to monkey w/ any trimming then 265.75.16's are your limit :( sad but true, if you want more, you're gonna have to get the necessary tools to start modifying your truck accordingly.

Also look into Body Lift by Roger Brown. The max is 1.5" (due to limitation in current hardware available) so you can add that as well. This will give you a bit more breathing room too (something to consider - but on the flip side not a lot of people like the body lift concept).

Lift is good but you want to lift to ensure that there's still enough "useable" travel for the suspension setup you plan to use. Overdoing it will result in lots of long term headaches.

Well I 'm just getting ready for the lift, I've got wheels on the way 17 x 8 /w 4.5 inch back spacing.. That should give me enough room for a tire 11 inches wide or so without rubbing the UCA.. right? 285/70-17 is pretty close to a 33 so that will do it.. I just don't want to stuff the wheel up into a small tire well if I hit somthing hard and trash it.. (the tire) Thats why I was wanting to try and get a few extra inches in there.. Maybe if I were to just use a top spacer in the front on top of new springs I could squeeze in 285's?? probably be about 4-4.5 inches of lift..
 
Fitting 285/70/17's will work w/ the OME kit. You'll just have to trim accordingly. You will probably rub the UCA (not sure as I don't have that exact setup - maybe other can chime in). Do expect rubbing at the body mount behind the front tire (door jam), removing the mudflaps or else it'll disappear on it's own after a full compression scenario, trim the front bumper accordingly (search as I just posted a few links on where to trim).

That should do it.

As for adding spacers on top of the OME's, I don't know anyone that has done it so I can't comment. I'd say don't but that's up to you. I'm sure you can add a toytec spacer or something (top out spacer) but don't go overboard. You can only lift it so much until the lift becomes useless.

But if you want more lift, use coilovers. I know you can crank them up pretty high (the higher you go the stiffer they get though... that's just physics). Hope that helps.

Lastly, just get a BL done then you won't have to worry. THink 3" suspension lift and 1.5" body = 4.5" total :)

Sounds like a plan.. I already scrapped the mud flaps.. I can heat bend all of the plastic mud sheilds (inner fender well) with a torch no problem (after just taking a good look)

Those 1.5 inch body lifts can't be to tough to do since they don't go so high.. Anyone done one on here?
 
rb install is a piece of cake to install. just follow the instructions that roger brown provides and you should be fine. just remember to work from one side to the other.

rb installs are all the same so any previous gen installation direction will work.

This is probably going to get sonfusing, but bear with me... the info is here!

I have a similar setup to yours and had rubbing when I went to 33's with 16's. With 17's, you'll have even more of a problem. I started with a 3.5" suspension lift and when I went to my 33x16's, I rubbed after 3/4" of compression. This equates to basically everytime I went into a driveway at more than 1 mph. So to fix this, I added a 4Cralwer 2" body lift. Now, I can go 40mph into a driveway (not that I would) and not rub. The lift was pretty easy to do and only took a few hours. I recommend having 2 people to do the intsal, it just makes it easier. With you running a 17" rim, you will have problem rubbing when your suspension comresses. I would recommend a 2" lift for you since you are running 17's and will be bigger than my setup by .5". Since you wanted a 1.5" anyways, you should compensate another .5" for your bigger rims. With the 2" lift, I didn't have to relocate any brake lines, etc. on my truck. Just make sure you get the bumper bracket, steering extension, and radiator drop (optional). But buy your left from 4Crawler (Roger Brown) instead of Daystar. Roger is a fellow 4Runner owner and builds each of his kits to order. His customer service is great as well.
