Springs suggestion for 5160's

I am ordering the Bilstein 6112's for the front in January when they become available and want to pair them with 5160's in the rear. What springs should I get for the rear todo a 2-2.5" lift? This will be for my 14 KDSS equipped trail. The one piece of info I can't find yet on the 6112's is how much extra weight they can handle? I will be installing a shock works bumper and winch eventually.

FYI you'll want to get extended bump stops for those 5160s. I had to learn the hard way, been through 3 sets......

Do you mind elaborating? I have 5160s installed now. Any particular brand/model of bumps stops you suggest?

My part number from toytec is 25-177909 and that's from Toytec way back when they carried them.

Basically the shock will bottom out and blow during up/down travel. Look into the metaltech 3" bumpstop or the Timbrens. I don't have these in yet, but I will be adding the MT's when I put my icons in.

Bringing this back to hear some experiences of rear 5160 and non-OEM springs.. Looking to change OEMs for progressives, not too firm, w/ up to 1.5" lift.. Spacers could also be an option I guess.

So for all you out there, How do you like yours? How'd you compare the on/ off-road ride vs stock springs w/ 5160s?

Good luck finding a true 1.5" rear coil. The only ones I know about are SAW and OME, but both widely reported to be closer to 2" unless you have a third row seat or permanently place 200lb sand bags in the back.

A thread from awhile back mentioned a company that made custom coils, not sure if they're still around.

I love need up going Toytec. I may go Icon next.

So hows the Toytec ride? How much real lift did you see? And what makes you pick Icons next?
Just curious if you have something to share on this.

Wow iPhone auto correct really jacked my sentence above up....
I got a full 3" all around lift which eventually settled about 1/4" up front 1/2" in the rear after adding a Gobi, SW front and rear bumpers. Over all still siting nice at 2.75" up front and the coil overs are not cranked all the way up. The reason I'm considering Icon next is I don't feel the Toytec handles the added weight well. The ride is harsher over bumps now where as before it was smooth as butter. I will get Icon to do custom shocks for me to handle the added weight plus go with their UCAs.

Hey guys,

Reviving this thread to see if anyone has noticed this..

Just got the Wheeler's T12 installed (a.k.a. same coil as SAW 1.5") which unsurprisingly resulted in 2" to 2.25" lift in the rear with the 5160 shock.

I know the 5160s are rated for 0"-2.5" lift, so I'm within its range. However, going through bigger bumps at speed, I'm sensing a *clunk* on the quick rebounds (at full droop) as if something is stopping the rear axle from going down further.

Am I topping out the rear shock? Curious to know if anyone else has experienced this and what are the options here. More importantly, if I should be worried about the shocks..

FYI for those interested in these coils, they handle nice on a stock truck (no added weight/ bumpers/ racks...etc). Definitely firmer than stock, and you feel it, but not too harsh. The 5160 felt like too much shock for the stock springs, but matches well with these springs.. Truck feels more controlled offroad when going fast through the trails, and rear end no longer bottoms out all the time.

Not high jacking this thread but I'm getting 5160's installed monday with Oem spring s and a cornfed 1inch spacer. Will I have this problem above or is it because of borfoo3's longer springs? Thanks!

When you say "sensing" a clunk is there an actual noise associated with it?

Update: Clunk turned out to be the ICON hydraulic bump-stops engaging.. apparently they are noisier than expected when making contact with the lower metal base plate (hence the metal to metal clunk noise)

Also as an fyi, SAW coils were good until the rear SSO bumper came on. Just couldn't handle the weight.

ICON 3" Overlands coming soon. According to ICON I could get away with my 5160 rears as I can expect just above 2" lift with all that weight in the rear.

Glad to hear the t12s in the rear are working well. That's pretty much the route I'm planning on at this point in time.
