i've been thinking about getting one for a while and been doing my research. a lot of positive reviews on here for sure. does anyone have any off-road experience with it? i can think of some pros and cons. there's an article about sprint booster and off road coming from JP Magazine on their website. it's specifically about Jeeps? not really sure.

You can make very fine adjustments to it up to completely shutting it off. It's really just comes down to finer throttle modulation by your foot depending on the sensitivity of the setting.

Off road it is no different than on the street. I don't change the settings.
What are you thinking in terms of pros and cons?

Hey guys, received my Sprint Booster yesterday. Was surprised to see two rough cut slices/notches on each side of the plug, definitely something that was just done by hand after the fact. I should have snapped a shot before cleaning up all the plastic shavings. Looks kinda wonky to me, was just hoping to confirm this was deliberate and the norm, not some returned piece that somebody had to cut off to remove or something. Does your plug look like this? I looked thru all the photos in this thread plus the Jason Koertge install on YouTube but don’t quite have the right angle or a good enough view/photo to be certain. Thanks!

So I ordered a sprint booster from JasonB or burtman industries, and I have to say....

I was pretty skeptical, thinking its snake oil, hogwash, etc....but I have to admit I love this F@#$@# thing. Basically, the one thing I hated about the 4runner was the artificial throttle lag, and the sprint booster got rid of it, and on top of that, lets you set the sensitivity of the throttle response to your own liking. This is probably my favorite mod as of now because it got rid of something i HATED and then IMPROVED it.

Pros:
1. no more throttle lag.
2. no more trying to time your passing in bumper to bumper traffic
3. allows you to dial in your throttle sensitivity to match your stump leg
4. easy to install, and stupidly easy to adjust.
5. puts the smile back in my commute.
6. pedal lockout which acts like a immobilizer when you need to park your car for extended periods of time.
7. set it and forget it once you figure out what works for you.

Cons:
1. not sure if its worth that kind of coin if the current throttle response doesn't bother you.
2. 18 settings mean you kinda have to figure out what works for you.
3. you are basically paying somebody to fix a problem that toyota knowingly created.
4. maybe worse gas mileage, I don't know about that..I think it helps my gas mileage because I'm not mashing the gas pedal anymore to pass (now I try n feather the throttle like a normal human).


Lastly, Jason was a pleasure to deal with, even going as far to actually calling me to tell me my order was going to be slightly delayed. Yup, dood actually called me before a problem can arise, and yeah. he actually calls (not email, not text, and most importantly not disappearing with your money for weeks on end).

Also, Jason was the cheapest after tax and shipping (even beating amazon).

I sent them an email to factory in Germany looking for answers . I’ll let you know. You should be fine though, won't effect the use of the unit and luckily it's hidden behind the gas pedal for now.

Apparently this has to do with varying side rail conditions on the pedal plug and is normal, and the rough cuts were likely worn tooling. Anyway, really impressed with the speedy and thorough response... A+ support!

Took about 30 seconds to plug the booster in and a few minutes to find a location for the switch to my liking. Initial impressions are good, definitely a welcome improvement on the throttle response.

I find that the very beginning of the pedal on my 4R is fine, almost touchy at times, but the middle is very sluggish.
For those running this, can you improve the middle of the pedal without making the beginning of the pedal super touchy?
Is this thing adjusting a curve differently for the different settings?
Or is it simply just taking the entire curve and moving it up more with each number increase?

I don't think the "touchy" felling you have is the throttle blade speed. Remember, if you move your foot to 10%, the sprint booster allows the throttle blade to move at the same speed as your foot being depressed. Without it, the blade moves slower than your foot. When you try it you'll understand it better.

The 5th gens are really bad and even if you google search 2018 4Runner throttle lag, you will see people talking about it and then getting one of these (it fits 2010-2019 as they all use the same drive by wire module). Anyway, my one customer did a test, again, this was on a 4Runner, and said his 0-60 is a half second quicker! Now, I know most aren't doing 0-60 runs in a 4Runner, but realistically to improve a 0-60 by a half second (.5) you'd have to add 50+ horsepower, ie. supercharger/turbo, etc. Now again, this Sprint Booster is just eliminating the delay after you press the pedal, it's the reduction in delay that makes the difference here.

You can dig back further on here as I sold these for the 4th gen 4Runners too and there are posts on here for that one. Now I'm hearing the 5th gen makes more of a difference., there is more delay on the 5th gens and don't understand why. (I have 2-3 customers who both have a 4th gen and a 5th gen tell me this)

These also makes it a little more fun to drive, makes it feel peppier, and no delay. This does not add hp, it just reduces the delay by the drive by wire technology which is dated and uses the same algorithm since 2005 it seems, or these wouldn't make the difference that they do. I've also had some tell me they are getting better gas mileage on trips with this on. I don't market this as a feature of this item, but I guess technically you'd be using less gas, since you're eliminating that extra delay which I guess could result in less fuel burnt overall.

I believe it is a center locking tab. Squeeze and pull up?

Red is just faster action, opens and responds even quicker. The older model sprint booster came pre-programmed in red and you couldn't change it. Red is instantaneous. Now they let you adjust it for more settings.

Green is “Sport” mode and Red is “Race” mode. Each setting has 9 steps. I’m sitting on Sport 9. It makes the 4Runner a much more driveable truck, IMO. I tried several settings and landed in Sport 9. I then wrapped the cord under the dash and dropped the small controller behind the kick panel where it’s easily reachable if needed.

Thanks for explaining that. Also, from the feedback customers have given me, most seem to use sport 9 setting as their favorite.

Been using mine for a couple of weeks, just been leaving on green 5 and have noticed that my usual MPG has gone from 17.5 to 18.3 or so... I usually do not gun it too often, but the new times I have I did notice that it had a little more pep. Would probably help if I went to the red.

That's awesome! I don't mention the gas mpg gains when selling this because that's not where the real advantage is, but that's just super cool if it's helping! Thanks for the feedback.
