Sqealing nose when turning at low speeds.

Ive had my 3" toyotec lift on for two weeks now. The car drives great. Two days ago I was turning left into the drive through i heard this long squealing noise which sounded like it was coming from the front, but its hard to tell. I only have 300 miles on the car.

It seems the its mostly on the left hand turns, and it seems I only notice it when im driving slow.

Any ideas as to what this might be and what to look for?

Hi bbenson,

Try touching the brake pedal with varied amounts of pressure and duration; I just want to establish whether it's disc brake related or not. Often with new disc brakes, the two mating surfaces (pad and rotor) will need a short "wear-in" period to establish full surface contact; particularly if the vehicle has been sitting outdoors for an extended period of time.

EDIT: If it turns out to be a 'classic' disc brake squeal, a routine 'De-glazing' procedure to those new brake pads and rotors at the dealership will surely eradicate the problem!

Front tire rubbing on the curb at the drive through? Really, a little more description might be more helpful for us to work with.

What kind of squeal?
Metallic or rubber?
Full lock on the steering or only partial turn?
Does it happen while you're turning the wheel or only in one place?
Big tires of factory?
Windows up or down?

It could be something as benign as tire scrub on asphalt.

Metal sounding squeal. Almost like brake squeal, but it happens with and without brake being pressed. Mostly on left turns. No spacer, just toyotec springs and billstein struts. 285 70 17 tires

Issue seems to be more related with turning left, than brake issues. Once it get squeaking it'll do it intermittently while going straight. When it squeals if I turn hard right, it seems to stop while turning.
Bad bearing?

My rule-of-thumb when diagnosing problems/noises is to go back to the last thing you did to the car -- in your case suspension.

You don't say, but do imply, that this started with your suspension work. Seems obvious it's related.

Possible, but normally a bad bearing will manifest with some front end wandering in the steering and grumbling (low level) before it starts to squeal. When a bearing gets to the squeal point you are already screwed most of the time. Possibly a CV joint?

Bearings and CV joints sure seem a stretch given he only has 300 miles on the car.

As in the vast majority of issues reported here on modded cars, I'd sure look to that first.

What you are experiencing sounds identical to what I heard after installing my 3" toytec boss lift. Also have 285 70 17s. Only made the noise when turning left. I found it most noticeable when backing out of driveway. Like yours, brakes/no-brakes made no difference. It lasted for a few months, then simply went away.

I pay close attention to my cars/trucks and found it a bit frustrating when I couldn't track down the source. Hopefully yours will resolve in short order. Maybe a bit of off road fun will help the component seat quickly. As good an excuse as any to go 4x4..

So i fixed the issue. When the random squeal started last night I had my wife jump into the drivers seat and I stood outside trying to hear where the squeal was coming from. Drivers front... I took off the wheel this evening and started looking at everything. I quickly notice the bottom of the brake rotors shield was a little bent, pushed up against the bottom of the rotor. I think that since it was a little bent, the tire/wheel must have brush against it on hard turns, giving it just enough of a push to force the brake shield into the rotor. I bent it back into place and it was obvious that this was the issue all along!

I Feel like break dancing right now, and I have no clue how to do it, but im willing to try. :guitar2:

Im guessing Americas Tire must have bent it when installing my new wheels or something.
