I have a 2002 4Runner that squeals SOMETIMES at wet or cold start ups. I know that the belts are the first thing to check. They have recently been replaced and started to squeal. I took my car back to the mechanic and he tighten them. They still squealed. I took it back again. He tried a different brand of belt and they still squeal.
I washed my truck a few times during the fall on a dry sunny day. The roads and underside of the truck was dry before washing it in my driveway. After I dried the truck off I moved it in the drive way and it squealed at start up. I can't believe that much water get through the hood to get anything wet. But it happened the 3-4 times I washed it in the driveway. The noise seems to be coming from right behind the driver side firewall and next to the Front driver side wheel well.
