SR5 or Limited (4x4)

What are the main pro's and con's between the SR5 and the Limited? I sat inside both at the dealership and noticed a few differences on the interior but not many. I didn't look for long though. I realize the Limited has leather, which I want, but what are the other main differences. Is the LTD worth the extra money? I don't plan on selling it for at least 5-7 years. The extra money isn't the issue, but I don't want to pay more for not much either. Are there any of you who bought an SR5 and wish you would have bought a Limited? And vice versa?

Please let me know your thoughts......from both sides.

I looked a little at the limiteds but not much. I think they have a better suspension system that doesnt give it the nose dive like the Sr5 has. You can get leather in the SR5, just look for one with the premium package. I just bought one a couple weeks ago.
 
If money is not an issue get the Limited. You get the Torsen center diff and the X-REAS suspension. Plus leather, heated seats, those cool gauges, and dual climate control. I am sure there are more differences but my brain isn't working.

If I were to do it again I would get a Limited just for the Torsen Center differential.
 
Off the top of my head; heated seats, full time 4WD, better resale value, a killer sound system, Nav, typically comes w/ a 3rd row, reverse camera, dual climate control, etc.

My SR5 came with the reverse camera AND parktronic. Don't think the Limited comes with parktronic.

i went with SR5 because i wanted the least expensive 4runner. i figured the money saved could be put to the better use. the lack of center differential is troubling but it's more of a mental thing, rather than a rational thinking. i mean, how often do you think you will encounter an adverse road condition in which only center differential, not the part-time 4WD, can get u out of?

another reason is that i usually go nuts on my summer ride. i'd rather see more money go into my next summer ride cuz it shows :) 4runner isn't exactly a showy vehicle regardless of the trim level.
 
Go SR5 if you plan to mod, limited if you don't. The stock suspension is sooo bad on the SR5 you almost have to upgrade it. The limited guys seem to love their XREAS suspension.
 
I initially wanted the Limited because I wanted Shoreline Blue and the 20" wheels, but I didn't want the extra payment. I enjoy my SR5, but I do wish I had the automatic headlights, dual climate and the smart key that the Limited includes. I traded for the wheels, so I have the same look, but other than that, I'm happy with my SR5.

Both are great vehicles and a lot will mention the X-REAS suspension on the Limited. I have never driven one so I can't compare. I did however come from a Super Duty F-250 to my 4Runner, so that may be why I've never even noticed the suspension as most others note.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you want and what you like. Drive both, and weigh your pros and cons of each. In the end, just be happy with you choice. You are getting a GREAT vehicle either way. Enjoy and good luck on your decision!!
 
Other than using the search option which I can't believe wasn't the first reply(guys are getting soft around here lately). I'm not sure about the US Toyota website but the Canadian Toyota website had an exact checklist of all the differences between the models.


Just checked, I guess because we only have the 3 models with no option choices it's easier for Toyota to post a comparison. I'd check out www.toyota.ca as the differences are still the same you just get the option of removing options.

the limited got better when i took the X-REAS stuff off. trust me it nose dived like crazy before i did the lift .

so i woulndn't base your decision on the X-REAS IMHO i think it was crap !
 
Despite the fact that Toyota put in the resources to justify the costs, it doesn't really feel "limited" to me. Obviously everyone here can distinguish the runner lineup, but your average crossover driver probably couldn't even spot the 20" wheels. Aside from my superficial perspective, you could upgrade the SR5 to the extent that it almost is a LTD. Consider the LTD route if you're a creature of comfort.

1. You never want to take the keys out of your pocket unless it's TSA demanding it.

2. You prefer the rotary knob over the junior shifter (4x4).

3. Your wife thinks the AC is too cold and hasn't figured out that she can just shut the vents on her side.

4. You love the 20" OEM wheels even though it will severely limit your tire options (within warranty standards).

5. You like the XREAS even though it still rides like a truck (that's why I like it. if I wanted to hug the road, I would buy a Porsche Carrera).

No. 1 applied to my decision, but more importantly, my wife wanted the LTD over the SR5. Happy wife, happy life. I was more than happy with my 3rd gen SR5, which fit me like a perfect glove unlike the current overgrown assault vehicle. I wish the LTD came with options like automatic rain sensor wipers, but I guess that would be called a Lexus.

I drove both and bought SR5 with leather... same look and feel as the limited inside and out really except the 20" wheels which I like but they are only 7" wide wheels.... bleh! Suspension? SR5 sucks but I can make it far better than XREAS for a lot less than the price difference between SR5 and Limited.... just my 2 cents.

Keeping it stock? = limited
Modding at all? = SR5

got the $$$$$ = Trail
 
I personally like full time 4x4 and autolights in Limited. Didn't like too much chrome and 20" wheels. Other differences were not very important to me so I decided that it's not worth to pay more for Limited. If I was to buy new T4R now I would be deciding between SR5 and TE I think.

Are you saying the LE got better when you took the X-REAS off, or that it got better when you did a lift? That's an important distinction.

A lift may be > X-REAS, but X-REAS > nothing (to me at least)
 
Money is not an issue, get the limited. You will not regret having all the extra bells and whistles. On the other hand, you may regret not having some of these options down the line. Off the top of my head, I certainly wish my TE had auto lights, full time 4x4, climate control, smart key/push button start. Some of these little options may just make your daily routines a bit more enjoyable. Simple enough choice to me.
 
If I had to do it again and could afford the extra cost for the Limited, I would go that route. I could care less about the extra interior goodies the LE comes with over my leather equipped SR5. In fact, I prefer the gauges and beige lower dash panels of the SR5 over the LE offerings. However, the XREAS suspension and extra two wheel drive would really peak my interest in the Limited. As KC stated above, you almost start looking for suspension upgrades for the SR5 to get ride of the floaty feeling and nose dive. However, I really want a TE with my beige leather interior. I'd trade in my SR5 in a heartbeat if that option was available.
 
I personnaly like the full time 4X4 on limited but was not willing to pay huge difference between SR5 Upgrade Package (Canada) and Limited.

It's been a year and a half driving SR5 and no regrets at all.

well to do the lift you have to take the x-teas off and it got better with the new lift yes . no nosedive, way softer ride . the suspension handles the bumps way better then it ever did . i could not be happier with how the 4runner feels now .
imho it mad a huge difference when i lifted and it was for the better .

i can't say that for other truck i have lifted in the past .
