SR5 or Limited (4x4)

Hi BlueDog007,
I struggled with the same dilemma when I bought my 1'st 4Runner. It was a 1998, "Candy apple red" SR5. I truely loved that truck, and it was the newest, late model vehical that I had ever purchased (1- 4-02).
A few days after that, I found out that my cousin 'Robin' had just bought her 1'st 4Runner too; a 1999, "Emerald Green" 'Limited'. I had never seen the inside of the limited, never really new what that meant....until I saw her truck in her driveway

O.M.G.! It had those truck fender flares, and that white leather interior, wood trimmed dash...etc. When I saw it up close, I think that's when I first knew the true meaning of envy! I spent the next few months, wondering....."why didn't I get the limited?". And like you, money wasn't an issue, I just didn't know how HUGE the difference was.
But this time when I bought my new 4Runner, (and I mean NO disrespect to those who are enjoying their SR5's; they're still great trucks) but, it would be nothing less than a Limited!
Not too many feelings are worse than..."buyer's remorse", especially when you're spending
$40,000+, and you can actually afford to go "Top of the line", but didn't!

2 weeks of research, drove at least 5 4runners from at least 5 different dealers.
Looked at sr5 at first. Coming out of a bmw 5 series i felt i'd be happier with the leather, heated seats, Preferred All wheel drive (I had an x5 once, loved it).
Wasnt a hard decision getting the 2012 4runner limited 43215.00 for 39k. thats less than what used 2011's are selling for in my area.
So far, 24hrs of ownership, i'm happy. took a long trip in it yesterday and have 400mi on it .
Get the limited, you can still do what you want. Aftermarket means hassles, time, more decisions .
I buy em how i like em or I dont buy.

I disagree, I think X-REAS allows the Limited to corner WAY better than any 4K+lb vehicle should, period. I'm amazed at what it does.
Not sure what you disliked about it, but certainly has it's use.
Understand you wanted to lift your 4Runner and discard, but don't lead the OP to believe it had no value in corners. Certainly may have no value for you, but OP may want to drive both and decide for himself.

The single biggest factor in ponying up for the Limited is the full-time 4WD system. If I lived someplace that had more consistent weather conditions, the choice would have been a lot tougher. And I DO think X-REAS is a great feature, really allows the 4Runner to corner in cross-over territory, but that was just icing on the cake.
All that said, I'd have bought an gussied up SR5, so real world pricing means an SR5 with premium is going to run approx. $36/$37K (stickering at approx. $38). Fact I could get a Limited at $39K made it a pretty easy decision (for me).
If you're going with bare bones SR5 though, that spread is closer to $5K... so let us know what you end up doing.
