SR5 to Trail Roof Rack Swap

Has anyone swapped out the SR5 (or limited) roof rack rails for the Trail Edition rails?

As part of my deal with dealership to purchase a new SR5 I asked that they supply the labor to swap the roof rack for a TE rack that I will buy used. They told me that this is very labor intensive because they have to drop the headliner and the cost is probably $500 to $600. I have no mechanical abilities so I am sure I need someone to do this for me but that sounds a bit excessive. Also, the service department told the salesman that they are not even sure if the Trail Edition rack is compatible with the SR5.

Anyone have experience with this? If I purchase this truck I will be embarking on a serious de-chroming starting at the top!

I think it will fit but you don't have to drop the headliner. You can always just de-chrome your OEM roof rack and save the money and frustration.

i believe it is doable because there's been a market for Trail roof rack takeoffs in the 5G classified thread. and i can't imagine the headliner is involved in the least.

and as posted above, you could just de-chrome the SR5 rails...
