SR5 with no rear differential lock - how compromised?

nothing against the OP, but how do you "just realize" this? as someone else mentioned, unless you had a 4th gen TE, you didn't have it before either. I doubt if it was even an option on 3rd gens.

Yes, the locker makes a difference if you are off road, in 4-lo and have a rear wheel off the ground, or are in some slick stuff. as other have mentioned, you can certainly add one.

Hey everyone, first the 3rd gens did have the rear locker option as I have it on my 99. Second, not to start any controversy but if you really study TRAC/VSC, it is better than a locker and you have it on both axles. Take the case of one wheel off the ground on either axle, braking will be applied to the spinning wheel and power will go to the tractable wheel...perfect. Check out some youtube videos of A-TRAC in action.
What is really curious to me is when you engage 4-Lo the default is open axles. You HAVE to engage A-TRAC...eh.
Happy Trails,
Willie

ATRAC is different. It's not better than a locker. It's not really worse either. What is hard to argue with is the fact that a locker does provide better off road traction. Why? Kinetic friction <<< static friction. ATRAC is IMO as good as a good posi. It's not as good as a full locker.
