standard trail with moonroof

Looks like the moonroof is only available in the trail premium. Can a moonroof be had in a standard trail configuration?

I think the only way to do that is to have one dealer installed. Mine has a moonroof though and I can count on one finger how many times I've opened it. When it's hot out, I find it just cooks my head. I usually ride around with the windows down and the rear hatch window down. Moves plenty of air though the truck.

Nope, not from the factory. At least not in the 2015 MY. I'm assuming 2016 is the same. Have to go to Trail Premium to get the moonroof.

For 2013 there was no Premium, and Trail came with moonroof, whether you wanted it or not.

Have you sat in one with a moonroof? Depending on where you put the seat, your head could be like 1 inch from the lining. Then in the second row there is this funky bump thing.

Seems like where ever I park between our house and my work, there are seagulls and pigeons. I only open the moon roof to demonstrate to my neighbor while he spends an hour futzing around with his wrangler roof, or get a rise out of the kids. I would rather have the head room.

Far as I know, the only way to get heated seats and no moon roof is TRD Pro.

I didn't want the moon roof, but as has been said, it was not an option to delete with a trail premium. I'd rather have extra head room. OTOH, I do use it a lot when the weather allows. Fall is a good time for it. My only real complaint is that it would be nicer if it were bigger and/or they had a second row sunroof as well.

you have your answer but food for thought, I traded mine with for one without. More headroom, no worries of leaks and a full roof rack just makes sense now

hmm this complicates my decision. Didn't want to spend the $$$ on a premium. Maybe windows down is enough. Coming from a Jeep JKU where the whole top comes off I'm a little spoiled.

I too came from a JKU and trust me all windows down and the back window down, no sun beating on your head and the ability to zip everything up with the touch of a button..... I don't miss the Jeep

No you sir are the guy I need to talk to. I still have my jeep and the JK will have to go to help fund the 4runner. I really have loved the jeep but it has no power windows, door locks, seats or any creature comforts. Even so I have really enjoyed it with the doors off and top off. I've been a little torn that I would regret selling the jeep since you can't go topless in a 4runner. Help ease my discomfort.

had an 07JKU built on 37s. Traded it on a 2011 SR5 4runner.... thought I missed it, after 3 years traded the 4runner in on a 2015 JKU.... lasted a month and I went back to a 2015 4runner. Jeeps are fun, but the 4runner is hands down a better vehicle. "Im Dagnabit and I have Direct TV. Don't be Jeep Owning Dagnabit and settle for cable"

now with all that said if you are looking for a daily driver, family ORV and reliable vehicle get the 4Runner! If you are just looking for a rig to wheel hard and short commutes. The Jeep can't be beat.

Skipping the moonroof gives me one less thing to worry about leaking/breaking/drains getting plugged, etc. I didn't use the one on the Land Cruiser enough to think I couldn't live without it. And the headroom is spacious!

One of the best things about the 4Runner is the combo of the moonroof and the rear window. If you're driving on the freeway and want some fresh air, you can roll down the rear window a few inches, then open the moonroof and you' get fresh air from back to front without all the noise you would get if you roll down the side windows. Even if you don't open it much, I really like the amount of light it adds to the cabin. I'm 6'2" and fit in my '14 TEP without issue.

I didn't have a JKU but I did sell my built TJ to get a Trail 4R and after wheeling with it a few times I don't think I will miss the Jeep at all. I did like being able to take the doors and top off but quite a few times on longer trips I got caught in bad weather so I think it will be a lot safer to wheel in the 4R.

Also we opted for regular trail because in previous vehicles with moonroofs I found that I only used it maybe once or twice a year. Most of the time I honestly forgot it was even there. Guess you just have to gauge how often you would actually use it.

I'm sure I'm opening a can of angry worms here but I see in your signature line you mention you are the future owner of a 2016 4runner without KDSS. I guess there is a love hate relationship with this feature. Why you got's da hate for KDSS?

KDSS is a hydraulic ram that firms up the suspension during cornering--someone described it as an "active sway bar" and that's pretty much what it is. It's always on. It's always working. It's not an "off road system" as some dumb shit Toyota dealers who don't know their ass from a Party Mode switch sell it.

So what's wrong with KDSS?

-it makes lifting the truck more expensive and complex (a competent shop will have no problems with it, but will charge you more)
-it WILL break or at least need major expensive servicing if GX470 owners' experience has been in any way accurate
-any fancy sway bar system just limits your articulation off road--that's why the few remaining off road vehicles either have sway bar disconnect or you can just remove them altogether
-aggressive driving and cornering isn't a reason to buy a truck, and system that makes it handle more crisply while sacrificing off-road-ability is questionable

I'd say the answer comes down to: "Do you plan on doing your own suspension mods in the future?"

If Yes, then maybe save the money by not getting the KDSS since better COs and shocks etc will take care of the lackluster KDSSless on-road performance by itself.

If you do not plan on doing your own suspension upgrades, then KDSS may be worth the extra up front.

While the positives are well known and they do work, but there are a few negatives that crop up here and there too I've seen.

* Thunking sound when driving over bumps. Drives some people crazy.
* Can get in the way of some suspension upgrades.
* Another part to fail. The pistons have leaked on some people in as little as 30k miles and is a $1500-$2500 fix.
* Limiting area in the back for larger spare tire or other things you might want to put there.

I don't have much experience with KDSS off road, but on road, it keeps you amazingly stable when taking corners.

However, there are 3 reasons I would never own another vehicle with it again.

1. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/160261-14-te-guys-weird-noise.html

2. $1,500 to replace the rear actuator and bleed the system (@80k miles)

3. Most places don't have the tools and experience to properly troubleshoot and work on that system. Not all Toyota dealerships can work on it, and if you do find one that does, the tech likely has very little experience working on it. You are pretty much stuck going to a Toyota or Lexus dealership.

Does that answer your question? Do a research.
