Starter lead boot?

In the process of removing my starter and replacing the contacts and plunger, the boot that covers the pictured lead was torn up. It had basically disintegrated and I picked off the pieces. It seems like it was filled with some kind of (dielectric?) grease underneath.

Do I need to replace this boot? Will there be some kind of electrical risk without it? Any idea on a part number?

I can't be the only one to run into this problem... There has got to be a replacement cover out there, I assume that rebuilt starters come with new parts like this one.

I'm replacing my engine, so when I pulled the starter I found I had a Bosch... this starter had a plastic "push on" cover only--- no rubber boot.

Don't worry about it. Many times when replacing starters they break off. No real need for them as long as your not dropping tools down there with the battery connected

Just use some electrical tape and cover it.
