Starter Replacement Question

Guys,

I am trying to replace the starter contacts...but to be quite honest, I'm not very mechanically savvy. As a result, I'm leaning heavily on this:

Questions:

1) Can I use these guides for a 5 spd 1998 2.7?
2) Do I have to remove the front right tire and put the car on a jack stand?
3) Where is the "brake line?" in step 3 of the first link?

I have never pulled a starter out of a 3rz but I'd imagine it a lot simpler.
Crawl under your runner remove your skid plate and look. I could pull starters all day on my old 22re in my first gen runner. Tried removing the starter in a 3.0 runner once almost lost my hand slicing it on a exposed bolt.

But to answer your questions.
1.I don't know for sure.
2.don't know if you need to remove the tire but "if" you do please do us all a favor and use a jack stand and as added security place the wheel under the truck just in case of jackstand failure.
3. Follow the lines from the caliper.

Funny u asked about the tire. Doing it with the tire still on the vehicle is 100 times harder than just removing the tire and getting in there at it...

alright sounds good, will take the tire off

dude! That's awesome! I guess it's different on the 2.7 then? Cause the other guides on here said to take the right wheel off. Perfect, I'll follow this guide and definitely look into the jackstand/wheel thing!

this is turning out to be quite the job..i can't even get the rubber piece off. im afraid of breaking it

That tacoma world write up is really good. It's a super simple process but if you don't have a ratcheting box end and have ever thought about getting a set, now would be the time. In the 3.4L getting to those bolts is about the most annoying thing in the world. Dont worry about those plastic clips on the rubber guard, you can get more at ACE. Good Luck! Trust yourself.
