Starting '99 Console Swap, have a couple of questions

Thanks [MENTION=116470]Tyler James Inc[/MENTION], I updated the links above with a different hosting site. Photobucket can kiss my big fat a$$ with their "give us $200 a year to host your photos". I lost many many hours of work trying to recreate my posts on other forums after the photos were lost, not to mention looking at posts with broken links. Ugh. When all is said and done, and assuming my mods work , I will write up a very detailed tutorial, complete with all wiring diagrams. And host it in two different places, just in case .

And yeah, I can't imagine that 3-wire method would work. I used the 6-wire method in the pic above, and mine worked perfectly. Light lit up when active and everything. Worked like it came from the factory like that [emoji1360]

Thanks for confirming the 6 wire method, makes me feel better before I start soldering. I repinned the hazard switch yesterday, so that works. ECT and back window will be a breeze, but I've been losing sleep because of this defogger thing - it bothers my brain to blindly solder without understanding why (can you tell that I'm an engineer?). So it's good to get a confirmation, thanks again buddy!

OK, I figured out the defogger circuit. I don't see the need for six wires, four should be enough, if I understand correctly. We'll find out once I try .

I could have sworn it was from that YT thread, but I went back and looked at still shots of my video, and I only used 4 wires too-

Hard to get any clear screen shots, but it's very clear I only used 4 wires.
So yeah- 4 wires should work just fine

Ha, perfect! Yeah, the other guy had 6 wires (in the picture I linked above, from YT), but two of them (G and WG) are illumination wires, which the '99 system already gets at the C23 connector. So I don't see any need for those two wires, as you confirmed.

I think there IS a way to do it with just three wires, like the other guy had posted above.. He said in his post that it first worked but then stopped, but after studying the wiring diagram, I think that the approach WILL work.

I want to minimize the number of wires because I suck at soldering, so the less the better. Will find out soon enough if that works, today is wiring day!

Confirmed that three wires is all that's needed for the defogger, everything works like a champ. I'll finish buttoning everything up, then will do a comprehensive writeup on the wiring.

when I got my late middle center console I was able to get pigtails for each of the connectors on the back. Can I tie into the pigtails instead of soldering directly to the circuit board? I've had this for over a year and need to get it done. LOL It taunts me

You do have to solder. Three wires . I suck at soldering, and I just did it, so you can too. I'm documenting my work as we speak, stay tuned.
