Starting the makeover after XMAS

So after XMAS I will be painting my 96 SR5 2WD in Raptor liner. I will be posting updates on this thread as I go so that if someone is on the fence about that stuff they can see the end result here.

I am looking for a few things for when this is done.

1) I want to change the interior from the blue/gray to tan. I am keeping an eye out at the local scrap yards. So if anyone has insight where I can get good condition seats at a great price let me know.

2) I am looking at fog lights for the top of the truck, I am hoping to do 4 hella style lights instead of a light bar. So if anyone has old ones laying around they want to sell hit me up. Or if you have pictures of one so I can see what it would look like that would be great.

3) Want to find TRD black rims at a budget price so any info would be helpful

4) I am selling the running boards that I just took off so keep an eye on the for sale page as I will take pictures and post them later today.

If that's you in the profile pic thank you for your service. I wouldn't put any money into a RWD because it has no resale value unless you're going to convert to 4WD. I'd sell it & buy a 4WD, honestly.

As to it being 2WD, I do not want a 4WD, I got the 4WD out of my system when I had my Jeep YJ. This is my pavement pounder. I just want it to be a very aggressive looking daily driver. I travel out to my sisters in TX and do a lot of traveling in it so I do not want all that extra weight.

I am also going to be keeping this until my 11 y/o can drive, hopefully lol. The guy I bought it from had the trans rebuilt at 200k and I just had the major motor stuff done so I plan on it lasting a while. In other words I am driving it until it dies for good.

I will be getting a FJ or Tacoma soon to take over as a daily driver and keep this one just because I cannot find it in me to sell it. (might drop a V8 in it also)

There's a 99 in a yard (clifty auto salvage) up here on 68-80 just south of Hopkinsville Ky. I don't know what he would charge but it has the entire tan cloth interior in it.
4x4 also. Don't know what it's brought in for but it looks complete and in pretty good shape. No locker though.

Good luck selling those running boards Man. I just gave mine away and was hard to find someone who wanted them even for free.
2uz swaps are getting fairly popular. That truck would scream with a UZ. Should be a gozillion wrecked 2wd 2UZ trucks in the yard...buy the whole truck and do the swap.

I also kicked around the idea of mounting some round lights up high but I couldn't figure out a way to mount them that I liked.

Also it's sad but I kinda agree with what was said earlier, don't invest too much money in a RWD if you ever want to get your money back.
Resale value for a 4WD is "high", but most people looking for a Runner want the 4WD and off road capabilities.

Going with black, I am still thinking on if I should do the bumpers or just paint them with flat black paint.

I am also going to be doing a grey flag on the hood and a couple other nods to my fallen friends from the military

These pictures are on my old phone, hood is 98% oxidized and above doors and top of fenders are gone. Trust me it will be a lot better with Raptor Liner. I also have some stencils I am going to do for my Army platoon I was in and friends I lost.

So got a few of the little miscellaneous pieces off the truck today since I had some downtime. Getting all the accessory stuff painted flat black before doing Raptor liner after Christmas.

I sanded and used etching primer on all metal pieces and I sanded the plastic. On the metal Parts I have four light coats of primer. And so far there are six light coats of flat black.

Finally got all the fumes out of the garage and the heater on so they should be dry to handle tomorrow and I will get the windshield wipers back on but not going to put the emblems on until I get the truck sanded and ready for Raptor liner.

And I got my helper who enjoys his TV breaks between coats

Wiper arms and grill under windshield repainted and finished curing just in time. Thank goodness for insulated garage door and electric heaters.

The roof rack comes off when it quits raining to be painted.

Next the grill gets painted, decided to do bumpers in Raptor Liner as I bought the 6 liter package and after talking to my friend who is a professional painter and did a Tacoma +bed with 5L, that's enough for 2 good coats plus an extra liter left over.

Also, for anyone who plans to do this also, don't remove the badges, I should have painted them on the truck the day before doing the raptor liner. Now I have to clean all the residue and reapply new adhesive.

Steps I used

Sanded with 220, cleaned with grease remover. On metal parts o used the etching primer (about 5 very light coats). On top of primer about 4-5 coats of black and plastic has about 6 very light coats of black. I didn't sand after because the paint dried so smooth I didn't want to mess it up. It took half a can of primer and 1 full can of black.

Will do, with this turning out so nice the interior is moving back on the list. Unless I get a text from the salvage yard that one comes in. But I will message you when that day comes.
