starts but wont stay running..

ok so my 4runner has been a champ no real issues at all the past 2 years ive owned it, until now....i went to start it today and it fires right up,for like a second or two then dies.....i do this several times and eventually it stays on and runs like nothing ever happened....what could this be?

Mine did something like this except it was after a wide open throttle and couldn't get it to run until I gave it gas while starting it. Never did it again. I too would like to know what caused it.

Mine did that, turned out I had the maf disconnected. That's probly not your problem, but worth mentioning I guess

k cool just cleaned the throttle body,air filter and maf....hopefully i dont get stuck anywhere lol oh well i always have aaa maby ill finally get my use out of them lol

Did you do this before or after the starting issue?

I once had a 2000 limited and it did the same thing and nothing happens for a while. Then one day it finally gave up and it won't stay running at all. After changing all the necessary parts it still wouldn't stay running. So we changed out the fuel pump to see if it was it. After replacing the fuel pump I was able to drive another 80 thousand miles before I traded it in with no issue at all.

I was thinking it was the fuel pump also. I've been putting off changing it because when I was testing the electrical from the access port under the seat, I saw a bunch of rust on the screws and such and knew I had a job ahead of me.
