Stealer installing my spoiler on Thursday...

I'm getting the stealer to install my spoiler that I purchased from Spoiler Depot.

For those that have installed an aftermarket spoiler, did you take out the 3rd brake light bulb on the 4Runner? I'm not sure if you will be able to see it once the spoiler is installed...or if it would look stupid seeing that the spoiler has the LED's built into the spoiler.

Everyone has their own preferences but most of the threads I've read on this subject the person unplugs the existing 3rd brake light and only uses the spoiler light.
 
I would pull the plug on the existing brake light bulb. Use the spoiler's light exclusively. Having both light up would not only be redundant, but it would indeed look stupid imo to have both light up. It's like seeing a 4Runner (or any other car for that matter) with a license frame that says "4Runner" and the badging on the lower right of the hatch already says "4Runner" (unless it has already been debadged but in most cases I see it isn't). I just think it looks stupid if not redundant.

Just my $0.02. I'll shut up now.

Ok, I guess I won't shut up. My Valor exhaust tip was already installed at the factory. Came with the truck at time of delivery. Imo, although it's purely cosmetic it really adds a little beefiness to the exhaust's look. I can't imagine any 4runner without it. It's been over a year now and it still is as polished and shiny since day one, no pitting on the finish either. The local stealer usually sells them for ~$60. Uses a single bolt install via clamp and no drilling needed. Very noticeable from the back too.
 
Icepuck, for what it's worth, whoever installs your exhaust tip make sure the little drain hole is pointed towards the ground for obvious reasons. I've seen 4runners on the lot with Valor tips installed and the drain hole is nowhere near where it should be.

I am planing on getting a spoiler from SpoilerDepot but I dont know how they are. Do they look original? Did you order yours painted? Could you post some pictures of your spoiler so that I may see it. Thanks..

I purchased my spoiler painted. It was actually installed yesterday evening and it looks fantastic. Toyota said they felt uncomfortable installing it because it was an aftermarket one...but fortunately I found out someone that does this kind of work.

I won't be able to get pics to you until sometime tomorrow. Spoiler Depot is the way to go...don't buy one from Toyota...way too overpriced.

Make sure to check your lights before you drive off though. My friend had an aftermarket spoiler put on his Accord and the installer screwed up the lights. The brake LEDs were constantly on and every time he applied the brakes the backup lights lit up. It was pretty hilarious at the time. Turns out the guy grounded the wrong wires.

Checked them before the guy left!! I'm weird about my lights...so I was definitely making sure they worked properly.
