I found this image on google. Not sure what year 4R you have but my 2007 4R uses mini fuses, so you'll need to make sure you get the mini version of the add-a-circuit.
You will need to run a wire that goes from the battery directly to the relay, Maybe that's the wire you were talking about? There is a rubber grommet on the driver side that goes through the firewall. Inside the car this grommet shows up under the dash, see pic - the red wires from the grommet. I have a couple of other wires running through there also for other lights.

I did this as well. Very nice write up Lowpro!
I did the simplified version and used T-taps and wired it directly to the reverse wire and the ground the feed into the trailer hitch. I am not very electrically inclined, so no switch for me, but that is a nice touch.
I used the 20 led fog lamps from v-leds.com to match my led reverse bulbs. But those seem to have a wider and taller light output, I will try to check out some different angles and compare. But either way, I am pretty sure those put out much more light and have a wider and taller output than the leds.

I'm in the middle of doing this mod and I spliced the red wire that would normally go to the battery with the yellow wire, and the black ground wire I spliced with the black wire for the trailer hitch....They're not working, and i've tried grounding the black wire to bolts and what not. Advice? Thanks

Hmmm....things don't sound right. Are you using a relay? Sounds like you are forgetting the relay. I'm confused why you would splice the red wire with the yellow wire? The fused positive (red) wire goes directly to the relay (#30). The Yellow tapped wire goes to # 86 on the relay. You'll need to ground the relay (#85) and the lights (find some bolts). Terminal # 87 will be used to power your new lights.
Making more sense now? Or did I completely misunderstand your problem?

Yeah that makes more sense. If you aren't doing the switch do you still need the diode and relay? And if so, where did you get the relay? Thanks

If you don't need the switch, you won't need the switch and diode but you'll still need the relay. The 12v 30amp relay I bought at Pepboys for $8. You should be able to find the relay at any auto parts place. The relay is needed because thats what trips the lights to come on when you hit reverse. The switch is just there in case you want the lights to come on while the car is off. This past weekend I actually used the lights to light up the dark area while setting up my tent...worked well! :bigok:
Oh, just make sure that the relay that you purchase has the same amount of terminals on the bottom.

I will fersure! I got the same lights and replaced with 100 watt bulbs. I have a different tow package on my 06' so I had to mount mine farther apart and to the bumper.

Hey guys, here is an alternative schematic for the reverse lamps if you dont want to use the diode method. This way uses a SPDT switch. If you want the switch to be lighted, you need two relays, non lighted switches can use only one relay.
I am in the process of doing so many other mods and write ups I just cannot seem to get around to this one, so far all I got done is the schematic.
But maybe this can help someone.
