Steering box upgrades

We finally got some rain out here in the desert. So I went out to play last night. Found a water hole that was a little deeper than I should've been playing in, and did some donuts in the mud. Got my truck lookin good and went home. Drive to work this morning and when I went on break I saw my steering box was leaking. I'm looking for an upgrade. Something beefier that might allow me a tighter turn without as many rotations of my steering wheel. I know on my old BMW if I got one out of newer BMW it would bolt right up and made it quite a bit nicer. Is there anything for our second gens?

A few pics of her! It looks like its coming out of the input shaft seal. You can see the puddle on the ground next to the frame rail.

I wonder if a box from a T100 would be a drop-in beefier replacement.
A Taco is R+P, so that's out.

There's a T100 in the yards. Ill try and pull it this weekend and see if it fits. Also I forgot to mention. Despite the front end, my truck is an early model 1990.

Hey Beanzermin, did u ever pull that T-100 steering box to see if it bolts into ur 4rnr? That could be a sweet upgrade.

Rockauto says the T100 is ring and pinion, are they wrong?

I don't think they are wrong. I went to the yards, the T100 didn't have a steering box from what I saw. I didn't see a place that it bolts up to on the frame rails either.

I'm not sure you're going to find anything better. Guys that run crossover steering with huge offroad tires on heavy armored-up rock crawlers use the same steering box you've got right now - I think if there was something better, they'd be using it. I think your best bet will be to rebuild the one you've got, and 200,000 miles from now rebuild it again.

I agree with Kid V, the ifs toyota boxes are pretty dang strong.
