Steering Knuckle Replacement..

As stated in a previous post I managed to break off a caliper bolt. (Dont ask) In the process of trying to remove said bolt I also manged to screw up the knuckle it screws into. SO, I was wondering if anyone has removed and replaced a steering knuckle? It seems fairly straight forward. Any insight would be much appreciated!

I did one the other day its a 19mm for top balljoint nut 19mm for the 2 lower bolts and a 12mm for the abs line

Does it require any special ball joint tools?

I've finally got time to start taking the steering knuckle off today and it actually has gone smooth. The only thing I have left to get off is the top ball joint. Does anyone have any tips to getting that off? There is no good way to pound on it. I'm guess a puller of some sort.

Couple hits on the upper ball joint and the steering knuckle fell out. YAHOO!

I had a CV boot replaced and they told me the previous owner cross-threaded the caliper bolt into the knuckle. Shop quoted me $1000 for a new one and brake pads. I will be having to do this in the next month or so, any info will be appreciated!!

Yea, it wasnt a bad job. I cant remember what the new knuckle cost but it was a striaghtforward job.

Just shop for a new/used knuckle, and do it your self. You can rent a puller for the ball joint from auto parts stores. Pretty easy.

Am I correct looking for an '05+ Taco knuckle? You know what years are interchangeable?

Adding Part numbers to thread

I know this thread is ancient, but I found it last week after also finding myself with a broken bolt in the knuckle of my 06.

I just wanted to document the part numbers if anyone else needs to save the time of finding a on-line parts manual. Discount on-line dealer parts prices were around $300 at the time of this post. Salvage parts was in the $200s.

43211-60200 -- Passenger side, will have R in the casting

43212-60600 -- Driver side, will have an L in the casting

90316-A0001 -- (4WD) Knuckle seal you will want to replace

Maybe bolt extraction will work for some, but I could not get it with heat or drilling or days of soaking PB Blaster. I came to the conclusion (eventually) that I was wasting my time and bought the knuclke. I also agree that knuckle removal is not bad if you have the tools (like the 35 MM socket and breaker to get the axle nut off). If you have time and not $300 taking the knuckle off the truck may give you a better shot at extracting a broken bolt.
