Steering Rack Compatibility Question

My steering rack is on its last legs. I was gonna go ahead and replace with the Safari rack. Then one of my friends offers me a rack for a 1st gen (2001) Tacoma. It's an OEM rack. Never used. He wants 250 for it. Will this rack be compatible with the 3rd gen? And if it requires modification, how much work will it take to get it to work?

Thanks in advance!

I found a part number 44250-35042 a couple of websites list that steering rack being capable of fitting both the tacoma and 4runner.. I think youre good to go.

That was one of the part numbers I saw for it and it had the Tacoma only. Didn't say anything about the 4Runner. Would you care to post the link?

Yes, it works. Wow, $250 is a deal. Just don't use Taco ball joints, turning radius is dramatically decreased.

Did you get it to work?

Have you installed the Tacoma rack on a 3rd gen? I just bought a junked 2000 tacoma rack and it bolts up but I had to swap out the outer tie rod ends, big problem is that the pressure and return hoses are swapped along with their tubing flare type and thread gauge size....

Hi were you able to do the swap in the end? Considering Tacoma racks (44250-35020 right?) as the 4Runner racks are tough to find in my region
