Steering wheel wobble

I have had steering wheel wobble at about 100 kms/hr [60mph] since I got my 2013 new. The wobble is only in the steering wheel , no noticeable steering issues and no vehicle wobble or shimmy. Basically no vibration at 80 to 90 and at 110 to 120. The vibration starts when around 100 km/hr either speeding up or slowing down. Does fade as travel continues. Toyota Dealer has said "drives like a truck not a car, get used to it" on one occasion and on another did nothing and asked permission to take the request to look at wheel wobble off the work order, and now that warranty is over [74,000 km, or 46,000 miles, is suggesting new wheels or wheel balance. Currently on Bridgestone. I've rotated tires several times and switch tire sets twice a year.

I had a similar shake as above at 60-65 mph, it had developed as my bfg KOs wore down and cupped, stock struts also ruined prolly at about 50k mi, maybe to many wash board roads or the heavier tires.

Intalled 5100s all around with new toytec rear springs and wobble almost disappeared completely, even with the tires wore. Ended up needing uca for alignment so I installed spcs with 1/4" spacers in front added and 285 cooper mtrs and smooth as silk again.

My opinion is the stock struts/shocks are inadequate and with bigger heavier tires they will accelerate wear on each other.

690 miles on my 4Runner and it does this. Dealer rebalanced. Said "it drove fine". It doesn't.

I've had the steering wheel vibration around 60-70 mph and also had vibration that I could feel through my legs and arms. long story short to fix it get a custom wheel shop that has a road force balancer to balance your tires. after replacing tires (half used Nitto's to brand new Toyo's) I still had the vibration. called around and found a place say yelp I know what you are talking about. all 4runner's have to be road forced balance to better than factory specs. I had them balance my tires and it fixed the problem. smooth as silk now. they told me they had to break the bead on two tires and move it 180 degrees on the wheel to get them nearly perfectly balanced. balancing the tires just to spec isn't good enough they said for a 4runner, some taco's and camry's also. you have to balance them to absolutely as good as the tire/wheel will balance.

My sons Jeep had severe death wobble for a while tracked it down to a slightly loose front track bar.. Worth a look. I had taken it to a dealer tire shops mechanics all had good ideas but no one ever caught it. I replace the steering stabilizer numerous alignments tire rotations almost replaces all the front end components. Stupid Track Bar!!!!!

So how noticeable is this shake, I have slight movement 50-60 but it's barely noticeable could be the road.

Yes I did on stock wheels with 30k. Dealer said it was tire issue. Just put new wheels and tires still slight wobble.

My T4R SR5 with Bridgestone Duler tires also suffers from this mild steering wheel vibration issue. It is tolerable so I will not take it in for a tire balance. I think in general, Bridgestone Dulers are not very good tires. I will just deal with them for now and get Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires next year or two. The OEM tires choices are really bad as either you get Dunlop junk or Bridgestone garbage. However, not all Dunlop and Bridgestone tires are bad. Too bad we don't get Michelin tires.

Why would you just "deal with them"?
It could be something else.
Regardless, you should take it in.
I could/may be a defective tire. It happens.
I had some when I had my FJ from the factory....they were out of spec.
Replaced under warranty!

I am not taking it in because the steering vibration is so mild and hardly noticeable. A very mild vibration shows up around 70-80mph and does not bother me.

Can't disagree with your point of view, just pointing out there could be another issue, since you mentioned they were causing steering vibration.
My Bridgestones were very smooth, no vibrations, just too prone to puncture.

I really appreciate your support and point of view. Most likely, I will replace Bridgestones for Michelin Defenders if and only if I don't get any steering wheel vibration with my Nokian Hakka winter tires. I will know more sometime in Oct when I switch from current wheels to winter wheels. If there is a steering wheel vibration with Nokian then I will have to take it into my dealership for resolution.

I think my issue may be with my procomp wheels, they are not hub centric so i will be upgrading to some TRD wheels.

Mine shook, balance at the dealer helped a little. Shake was still noticable. It wasnt until I got the Icon stage 5 lift and my ProComp wheels and tires untill it was gone for good.

I think it has to do with the adjustability of the upper arms. Mine rides perfect now.

I originally voted "no" in this poll as I had no vibration issues. Since then, and since mounting some Cooper AT3s, a vibration has developed between 60-70 mph on the highway. The wheels are balanced very 5K miles when I get them rotated at my local DT (non-Hunter machine). With the AT3s, I have noticed an interesting wear coloration on the inner and outer edges tread blocks of my tires as seen in the attached picture. This pattern is uniform on all the tires, as you can see in the front tire on the left hand side (or bottom) of the pic. Has anyone else with AT3s noticed this wear pattern?

I did not have the issue described until recently. I have the Nittos and have rotated them since new as recommended by Toyota. But premature wear at 20k I am needing new tires and noticed recently that when turning and when releasing the steering wheel at the point of release there is a noticible vibration. I suspect the tires and can report back when I can get the BFG KO2 replacements installed. I also suspect the KO2 will end my premature wear as well.

Mine started happening on my 2006 Limited over the last few months. I suspected a right upper ball joint, but after replacing the ball joint and A arm the vibration is still there.

Whats odd is that on the cooler mornings the vibration seems to disappear? Im taking it in next week to have the tires balanced and rotated to see if that might help.

I just started recently having this issue on my '16 SR5.

I have less then 5k miles on it
TRD suspension upgrade
TRD rims
stock tires
TRD brakes
TRD skid plate
I never drove it on stock rims, suspension or brakes.

Vibration issue starts mildly at 50MPH. picks up very bad at 60MPH+

I did not start having this issue, until I took it in to have them look at a massive squealing I had coming from front drivers side wheel.

They repack the barring and center hub (off center) they stated.

She goes back in tomorrow the master mechanics and Toyota mechanic rep will be looking at it. Will update when they update me.
