Get a wheelskins leather one its only $50-$60 somewhere in there I put them on everything I own, They just feel tons better anyway (They last forever). I had my wheelskins ordered and on the way before I bought the 4runner (but was sure I was getting one)

Its not the easiest install, you have to lace it up, Ive done so many its easy for me now, and can do one in about 40 minutes.

TO me this is your best bet, feels awesome, lasts forever and does not move!

They are super nice people too. I always order the cover and ask for an extra spool of lace - just in case - they always throw one in for me


Install hint - ensure steering wheel is smooth and clean (these fit tight, you will feel even the tiniest lump of dirt through the leather), also vacuum the inner part of the cover prior to install - both take 2 mins to do.

First I have heard of this. I'd think wear and tear would vary based on many factors like do your hands sweat like a sinner in church? Or you ring blingin it with a few on each finger?

Curious to know if others have this issue.
 
What kind of wear? Just discoloration or damage into the leather? You gotta clean and condition that thing more than any other surface since your hands are constantly transferring oil, sweat, and dirt to it.

If just discoloration, they do sell leather aerosol paint. Ive never used it but there are some youtube videos that shows it works pretty well.

Well I tend to drive like a gangster. One hand on steering wheel. One hand shooting gang signs. When I flee the police. I tend to sweat a little.

Haha only kidding
I don't sweat in the hands but maybe my wedding band may be a factor.

I was just thinking of this this morning on my way to work!. My FJ steering wheel is the rubber one that feels awesome new but at 7 years old it worn off a bit and looks ugly. All I know of is those hideous covers from Pep Boys that ladies like and those terrible stitch together plastic ones my dad always had that were equally as horrid.

How do you keep the stitching tight over the attachment points and keep the leather from bunching or pulling away?

Its actually all in the way you lace it, its not the most fun you'll have installing something but its not hard, just takes patience, and I've picked up a few tricks which are hard to explain without actually showing you, there are a few youtube videos that may help.

I am able to get them tight, and after install and a few weeks it shrinks up just a tad and she's locked in tight!!!

I've had many passengers with wedding bands that have caused damage or wear to my vehicles. My grandmother would anxiously move her hands around the door handle and steering wheel until it became a potato peeler.

I really hope it's your gangsta ways and not a common issue that all of us have to endure. Yes, that was selfish of me. :thumb:

Cool, I might do this on my other vehicle.. coming up on 180k and the wheel leather is pitting.

WOW, mine looks exactly like that! I took it to the dealer, who then reached out to Toyota, and they said too bad so sad. Said it was not due to wear... :doh:

My last note on the wheelskins. One good thing is if u install before your steering wheel gets yucky....you can take it off and use it again on another vehicle (new lace of course) and your oem wheel is beautiful and preserved and looks good for trade in or sale.
