I have a small patch just like that at about 5 o'clock on the steering wheel - frustrating with only 3k miles - I can't figure out what would have caused it to become so rough so quick

magic eraser and some lexol conditioner should have that looking like new.

It's not a matter of something being ON the steering wheel, it's that the surface of the steering wheel is coming off. At first, it looks like paint or something, but when you get up close you can tell it's the actually the very outer surface of the vinyl coming off.

That’s exactly what’s happening on my 2017 SR5. I’ve owned it for right at 1 year and it started feeling a little rough about 6 months ago. It’s not normal that the wheel should start coming apart that fast.

The same thing happened on my 05’ Tacoma after year 10. They definitely changed the way the wheel is made.

takes a little care and time but mine direct replacement cover turned out fantastic for 60 bucks.

Fingers crossed, I went in for the 10k service and showed Toyota the steering wheel. The response was predictable “never seen that before” but they did admit that it should not be peeling after only one year. Photos taken and warantee claim started. Let’s see if they ignore me or actually make good with a new wheel.

Will update either way.

After getting pretty much ghosted by North Bakersfield I was able to get some help at Bill Wright.

I came in for my 15k service and pushed the steering wheel problem again. luckily they made good on it and 2 days later I've got a new wheel in my '17

Hopefully this will help any one else who's had this happen to theirs.

If you're looking at the steering wheel that much, you should probably get out where the view beyond it is more noteworthy :thumb3:
