My steering wheel has seen better days. Just wondering what the best solution (cheaper) would be to fix the worn through peeling steering wheel?

Putting on a Wheelskin is your best bet. Here is where I got mine.

Toyota 4Runner Wheelskins Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Cover | eBay

Here is the end result. My original leather cover had a hole worn in it at the top. I cut out the top section of leather and then wrapped the hard plastic part of the wheel to build up the thickness before wrapping it with leather. I'm not crazy about the way it looks where it goes over the spokes, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new wheel.

Doesn't look half bad, some others I've seen tho are a different story.

If you don't want to go that route just keep an eye on craigslist for part outs, I grabbed mine for $20 and all it had was a little scratch at the top.

I believe some other toyota wheels will fit too, you may have to do some searching on your part to find which ones will and and if the airbag sensor will connect.

Wrapped mine in paracord some time ago... It's easily surpassed any crap cover I've bought in the past.

I keep feeling like shoe polish and some elbow grease would fix alot of these or at least mine. Anyone tried this? I may have to guinea pig it.

I don't really like the way the wraps look when crossing the spokes but replacement wheels are pricey and require exchange. That said Polish won't fix this

I'm kinda digging the para cord wrap and may have to try it as well.

I need to fix mine too. I have a hole in the leather at the 9:00 position.
I've been thinking about wrapping it with road bike bar tape.
Maybe I'll try that tomorrow.

Not cheap but I had mine reupholstered for $150. It wasn't much more than buying a used steering wheel and plus I had all new leather.

Old picture after I had it done.

+1 on the wheelskins.
Wish I had done it from new rather than later.
