Stereo Help Please!

Hi so I am having some issues with my stereo. I have a pioneer model AVH-P4900DVD that was already installed when I bought the 4runner. I believe it has factory speakers, but I am unsure. It is the type with the flip-out mechanical touchscreen. The issue is that the extreme right hand side of the touchscreen does not react when I touch it, which takes away a bunch of setup and tuning options. Can I replace just the touchscreen, or does the entire unit need replacing? Also, there is a Sirius radio tuner under the driver's seat. This was installed by the original owner. Since I do not use Sirius, can I take that out and put in something like an under the seat sub using the existing power and output cables already there from the Sirius tuner? Would I need an amp in order for that to work, or would the power supplied by either this stereo or a new one be sufficient for that? Thank you in advance for your help!

Probably better off replacing the whole head unit. The receiver power wire would not carry enough amperage (I believe that's the correct term) for an amp. You could use the power wire for the sat receiver for the remote amp power. Search the threads for more info on installing amps as I'm sure it has been covered. You can also read on the Crutchfield site and numerous other sites about installing amps.

Due to it's vintage and repair costs, better to move onto something newer.
Besides, with a newer unit, you could have navigation and bluetooth as well.

If your adding amps, you have to run a separated fused battery cable for it.
No way ever would the battery line from the head unit ever be enough.

Nobody really repairs car audio stuff anymore, unless it's really high end stuff.

Websites like craigslist, offerup and cheap stereo places are always readily there to sell the same stuff as bestbuy/cartoys for 50% of the cost or less in some cases.

Get a new head unit. Verify speakers before amplifying, stock speakers certainly aren't meant for aftermarket power supplies lol.

You might be able to find a remote control that replaces your lost functions if you were so inclined

+1 on replacing vs. repairing, +1 on the power wire to the sirus probably (I'd say definitely but I don't know for fact how much the sirus draws, but I'd guess less enough to the point the power wire isn't large enough to carry the power needed for an amp draw) not having what you need for an amp, +1 to talking to crutchfield folks as I've dealt with them before and they can help you figure things out, and finally +1 to possibly being able to find a remote, while generally useless I think, this could be a good use for one of those remotes!

Edit: also, theres threads on here detailing how to take the dash pieces off, so it would be easy/cheap enough to replace with a new head unit yourself (new ones can run around $100 if you don't need anything crazy), probably could also just plug and play if you get the same brand you have now, assuming the previous owner wired in a connector harness like the average bear does

Thanks for all the help everyone. I don't really want to amplify the speakers. I just want decent, normal sounding music. The speakers sound fine the way they are. The issue is that I cannot fine tune the stereo because I cannot touch the controls on the right side of the touchscreen. On a separate note, is Sirius radio still a thing? Do people still use it? I have always just used Pandora. Should I get rid of that stupid Sirius tuner under the seat?

If you mostly use Pandora, do yourself a favor (most likely, you can always split hairs with what-if's).

Get a more modern deck with bluetooth. Single din deck's with bluetooth and other stuff you won't even use are brand new for $80+ on ebay from reputable sellers. Touchscreen stuff can be had for $160ish+.

Point being, probably going to cost you $30+ just for a replacement remote. Or you can take the easy route and throw something new in there, with better adjustability, probably a stronger internal amplifier, bluetooth, ect.

Anything can be "repaired", but your fixing an outdated piece of technology. Like phones, computers, everything else. The modern day consumer doesn't repair it. The business or probability of finding it on the shelf isn't there, the costs are higher, the odd's are ever against you haha.

I mentioned which sound upgrades were the most noticable and best bang for your buck. Don't feel like you need to do sound deadening though, that was my own personal choice. I mentioned one Alpine combo that's super easy to install, no extra wiring needed!

Also, the stock speakers have a foam shroud that presses against the door panel. If you are not sure if they are stock or not this is the biggest clue. That and the "Toyota" stamp on the back

As far as Sirius still being a thing..my friend just bought a 2014 4runner and she loves her Sirius/XM radio. I listen to it on my phone and in my rig via the phone. I'm buying a tuner when I upgrade. They're less than $40 on Amazon.
