Sticky Clutch Pedal and Stuck Key

Help! 97 SR5 V6 manual transmission 4runner . . . clutch pedal will not return completely but clutch operates w/out any problem. I would have to pull it up manually with my feet . . . oh and my key often gets stuck in the ignition when i turn the engine off. I would have to turn the key on and off a few times before the key will pull out. Not sure if the problems are related or not . . . Any ideas? :roadkill:

I have the same truck as you. The clutch could be a few things, since it is a hydraulic style clutch system the first thing you should do is bleed the slave cylinder. The system could have bubbles in it resulting in the clutch not returning to normal position. The slave cylinder is located on the left side of the engine/transmission, you can reach it from crawling under the truck. In order to bleed the cylinder you will need two people. I have had to do this several times and I will post a pic if I can.

I just recently worked on a truck with the same symptoms so I'd be very interested in what the OP figured out as a final repair.

In case someone comes here searching for what you asked for also, here's a picture of the bleeding process that I took last week.

Even thought it turned out to be unnecessary, I bled the slave cylinder, which was easy to do using nothing more than a teen age helper, a 10mm flange wrench, and a piece of tubing leading to an open jar as described in this thread last week.
