Sticky Situation

So.....I'm an idiot. I accidentally dumped a large soda all over the interior of my truck. Unfortunately, only half wound up on my Weathertech mat. A lot got everywhere else, even under my seat to my amp. Fortunately it seems like that's ok.

So I took everything apart and tried to mop up and air out what I could. I removed the center console portion to get under there as well. It was literally everywhere. After spending almost 2 hours that night, I came down the next morning and found a puddle that leaked out the bottom of the truck onto the garage floor.

My questions are this:

1. Is there any way to remove the area around the shifter to get under there to clean better. My shifter has been sticking a little bit, so I'm wondering if there is a way to remove the plastic top to clean. This is the portion that is not part of the center console.

2. How do you remove the bottom of the center pillar between the doors and the rear rail plastic pieces to lift the carpet up in the back seat. I got the front up fine, but are there any screws rather than just tabs. I was pulling pretty hard without any movement.

Good ol' regular Dr. Pepper. Large from In-n-Out. I was quite mad at myself that night. Just gave the wife her dinner and said don't expect to see me soon.

The entire shifter bezel comes apart easily with just clips. The top, clear plastic and the sliding cover all can come apart. I would take it all out and wash it in the sink with some dish detergent and hot water. Good as new!

As far as the rear plastic pieces- I assume you are talking about the sill plates? They just pop off with no screws. That soda is soaked into the carpet padding by now. A carpet cleaner/shop vac is what you need...

As far as the rear plastic pieces- I assume you are talking about the sill plates? They just pop off with no screws. That soda is soaked into the carpet padding by now. A carpet cleaner/shop vac is what you need...

Ok, thanks. I never tried pulling on the portion over the shifter. Just removed the main center console portion to mop what I could. Thought I was in the clear till I went to shift out of park and had to put muscle into it to move it.

Yeah, I figured whatever was there is hard now or soaked in. But I got the majority of it up front. Removed the front sill and lifted the carpet up and shimmed it up with a screwdriver and put a fan there to dry out what I couldn't mop up. Guess the no drink rule goes for dad now too.

Philsey's question was at least pertinent to the situation at hand.

Diet soda evaporates to almost nothing, regular is a gooey sticky mess. It's almost easier with diet to just let it dry and you'll just end up with some flakes of dark dry paper believe it or not.

Might want to put a small pail of "damp rid" in the truck when you not driving, it will pick up all the moisture in the air.

Thanks guys. Got her all cleaned up last night. Took the shifter assembly all apart. Was east as described. Found a decent amount of soda in the crevices. Warm water and put it all together and she slides as smooth as new now. Thanks again.
