Stock amp size...

Hey guys,

Just a quick question regarding the dimension of the stock amp size, What are the dimensions of the amp? I searched and could not find anything...

Also on this topic has anyone stashed a smaller 2-channel amp in the stock location (besides the alpine power pack) Im not sure how much room is back there and don't want an amp under the seat.

There is an awesome deal on a 2 channel class A/B amp (~9"L, 9"W and 2.5"H) compared to the power pack and was seeing if the stock location is viable...

Get the Alpine Power Pack.

It's roughly the same size as the stock amp and puts out a LOT more power. I'm kinda mad I went through the whole mess of wiring up a full size amplifier after seeing this thing. It puts out as much power as my RE Audio 4 channel that is about the size of a phone book.

It's roughly the same size as the stock amp and puts out a LOT more power. I'm kinda mad I went through the whole mess of wiring up a full size amplifier after seeing this thing. It puts out as much power as my RE Audio 4 channel that is about the size of a phone book.

Has anyone installed one of these in the stock location yet? I'm really interested in it too. I already have my sub amp under the driver's seat, so it needs to go in the dash if at all possible.

No outputs on the factory radio.

Awesome thanks for this link, here in Canada I couldn't find the power pack for less than $200 CDN... I'm definently going this route.

I can confirm there is a quite a bit a room back there, I removed the stock amp today when I did the taco whip mod (if any one needs a picture of its size I still have it) It sits horizontally under the stereo and over the ABS sensor module.

I will be going with the alpine power pack as it will fit with ease back there.

I've been thinking about getting one of these sometime in the future. I've never done anything more with car audio than install a headunit and replace stock speakers before. I've never worked with amps. How do you install it? Did you run new speaker wire from the amp to the speakers?

Since we're talking about Replacing an existing amp with another, the wiring is Really simple and can use much of the same wiring.

The new amp will connect to hot and ground, assuming there was enough current from the existing hot, use the same one. Then there is another connection to allow the amp to know when to turn on/off, if you've wired a head unit before this wire is usually blue in color.

Since we don't have RCA outputs from the standard Toyo deck, we'll need to hook up amp inputs via the speaker level wires from the deck. The same speaker wires may be used with the new amp's output wires. Pretty simple stuff. If you go with a new hot wire be sure to fuse it very near the battery.

Anyone know how many clean (RMS) watts our current amps put out for comparison to this Alpine unit?

This is a good question.

I couldn't find anything on the amp saying what it delivered. However on the stock speakers they did say 20W so my guess the stock amp was putting about about the same as the head units 15-20W range.

There's a sub under the passenger seat in the Limiteds? Are you talking about 3rd Gen? Mine has the fan under there for the rear heat.

I started out with just a decent double DIN touchscreen headunit and front door speaks, and then decided I wanted more low end so I added a 10" sub. Now I want another one. :guitar2:

I was able to get a decent sub, Fosgate amp, power wiring and a cheap sealed box for around $200, and it sounds pretty damn good. I used to spend thousands on stereos back in the day, and it always surprises me how much value you get now. The Kenwood deck I'm using has built in crossovers, three pre-amp outs, two video inputs, iPod, sat radio, and all sorts of other bells and whistles and was under $400. I've paid more than that for cassette decks, and that was 20 years ago!! :faint2:

I can't remember if it's the same model, but I put an Alpine Power Pack in mine a few years back - just shoved it in behind/below the head unit and there was plenty of room. I also have an Alpine head unit, and IIRC the power pack just connects inline. Should be easy as long as you have the correct harness.

Thanks. I have a Kenwood deck with a lot of crap coming off the back of it, so I'm hoping everything will tuck in below it. I love the features but the thing is a ***** to cram back into the dash once I've had it out. I wish they would just stop putting CD players in them completely because it's a waste of space these days. :smash:

My bad - thought we were lucky enough to have a small sub but jeremyc74 is correct, just the rear heater fan. But maybe there's just enough space for low profile sub? Hmmmmm...
