stock cd players

Hey just thought id let you guys know, there IS a market for your stock Toyota cd player if you decide to get a new deck. I just put an awesome sony deck in, and almost threw away the toyota deck and amp that came with it (cd/tape/amplifier combo that comes with the '96 limited). but thought, hey if i put it on ebay maybe i could get like 30 bucks....try 128! yes, i got 128 bones for that stocker i couldnt believe it. anyway i just wanted to say dont throw that thing away!

yea, of course not!

theres always someone who wants what you remove from your truck... be it the stereo, running boards, lights, etc.

There is definitely a market for factory stereo units, although supply/demand does somewhat dictate the pricing.

Speaking for myself, I'm no audiophile and am satisfied with the stock six-speaker system on my '02. Ears of stone perhaps.

I also don't much care for most of the current crop of aftermarket players -- too many lights/bells/whistles and other stuff. But I'm not into flashy.

And perhaps it's a little naive, but with a stock radio I'm pretty unconcerned about someone breaking into the car to steal it. With a nice aftermarket system I'd be more concerned about such.

So I prefer OEM over aftermarket if the OEM is reasonably decent. If I were to buy a used vehicle with an aftermarket unit installed, I would likely look for an OEM head unit to put in its place.

well, most good aftermarket HU's have detachable face plates, so you can take it with you or hide it in the glove compartment when youre out of the vehicle. yea, its not ideal, but its a small price to pay for MUCH better sound.

the stock systems in 3rd gens are terrible... for a 30K+ vehicle when new, it sounds like crap.

trust me, if you change out your speakers and get a new HU, you will agree.

right now, im waiting on a modest sub and then my work will be complete.

im not into having someone 5 blocks away know that i turned my stereo on, but i am enough of an audiophile to want GOOD, crisp sound with no rattles or distortion.

you can get HU's that look stock... nakamichi's look like they were made for toyota's!

Thanks, but to be honest I've done the detachable faceplate before. It got real old real quick.

I have done speaker upgrades before and found it worthwhile. But on that vehicle the stock speakers were awful to begin with.

Stock HU and speakers suit my needs at this point. Though to be honest I haven't pulled door panels & looked so it's possible someone put in aftermarket speakers previously. (bought used not new)

I also don't punch the volume up much and don't get into the territory where the good aftermarket decks shine.

Please don't think I'm suggesting aftermarket head units are not well worth it to many people -- I merely pointed out why there exists a market for stock HU's. Not everyone needs, wants, or can appreciate the better sound from an aftermarket unit.

Remember, I said "ears of stone"...
