stock headunit, aftermarket sub

i looked for info on if you can wire an aftermarket sub into the stock jbl headunit because i hate my sony headunit, i know you can change out the jbl sub but i want to wire it into the factory headunit any info is appreciated

Yes, you can. Alot of people actually do it with the addition of a hi/low converter. It basically uses the "high" signal coming from your speakers and converts it into a low freq for an addition of an aftermarket subwoofer.

You can also find an amp with a integral hi/lo converter you can really simply the setup by just tapping into one of the rear speaker high level signal paths and calling it good...

The only problem I can see is tuning since any changes to the rear will change curves. I would try to add a PEQ (parametric EQ) unit to the signal path after the hi/lo just to have a little more control over the final tune.

I have a JL audio 500/1 amp on a JL 10w3 sub. The amp lets you just tap into a rear speaker's wires and run them to the amp. (Like others have mentioned above)
Also, you can tap into the 12V outlet in the cargo area to run the wire that turns the amp on (remote wire).

if you guys are looking for signal converters, the audiocontrol brand is good, the lc2i is the most basic one to use, just need a good tune, like the amp gain does not need to set high, with the use of the loc. i have fixed gain settings with the smd dd1. rockford fosgate also have one too. the powered loc is better than the basic speaker wire hook up. but it is better to take out that sony you hate for another brand of radio and run rca directly from the unit.
